Read moreGreat location. The pier, Venice beach oddities were entertaining. *Wished I could give our lodging more stars. We travelled too far and spent a lot of $$ to lodge in what we had to. Original feel of surfing California decor. Alcove Room set up is great for 3 different bed areas. Comfy sofa. Spacious livingroom area, nice closet. Small bathroom. Beds comfortable. Bedding was not cleanest. Staff is nice enough even when they working through a lot of issues. -walk to beach, restaurants, the pier. -the daisy was best breakfast. -so many versions of bikes, scooters, boards to rent close by. -We were surprised with MAJOR noise from all around. No soundproofing. I'm even hard of hearing. Above us was the worst. Workers and other guests talking outside. Was like they in room with u. Noise would last til 2am and start up again at 4am. Movement vibrated too. -They also started outdoor renovations with no warning, felt like jackhammering into our wall next to where we tried to sleep. They taking rotten wood material off, repainting. Didn't get much sleep the whole week there. Traffic noise as well. Big building next door getting noisy things tore out too. Probably gonna take awhile. -had to request new bedding. Stains on comforters, hair on sheets, some was worn looking and different colors of white and cream. Need pillow protectors on pillows and then the pillowcase. Not sure how old pillows are. Don't really want my face on unprotected pillows especially seeing things not the cleanest. -no heat in our room, cold week. Gave us two small plug in heaters that didn't generate much. They told us wear extra clothes. Couldn't get a blowing type heater as it made the breakers shut off and we were without power a few times. No plug ins next to beds. -toilet paper holder and towel rack fell off in middle of night making quite a racket scaring us lol. -small refrigerator, no microwave to heat up coffee or tea -parking very expensive per night, not much other choices. -they forgot to warn us we need key to get from beach to room, had to crawl over lol. -couldn't change to different lodging due to things booked that close to beach. They gave us money off we requested on check out, since these problems plagued us our entire stay. --reality-they should not taken reservations during their renovations. Not fair to unsuspecting vacationers. -I think they will work on these issues I hope. It had already been painted inside, so the soundproofing may not get addressed! --Ask lots of questions...
Read moreROBBED BY THE STAFF? VISITORS BEWARE. I do not take the time to write reviews very often. I think back to our experience at the Hotel California in Oct 2013 and I realize I wished someone would have warned me. I maybe could have saved my family and myself 3 months worth of heartbreak and thousands of dollars in losses.
Sunday afternoon after a one week stay at the hotel in town for business and pleasure my daughter, my wife and I went to the beach. Upon our return 2 hours later the room was cleaned, the beds were made and the door was locked just like we left it. But one thing was different; WE WERE ROBBED BY THE STAFF OF THE HOTEL! Someone had carefully searched through every little zipper and pouch of our luggage pulling all the most valuable goodies during the 2 hour window that the maids were in our room. We were missing a vintage wedding ring and iPad and many other personal items in the range of $6,000. The Santa Monica Police Department arrived, the forensics unit came and the whole nine yards. The Detective working on the case said he has uncovered many more bad things about this hotel and is pursuing them for crimes. I believe this could be happening all the time.
The main reason I write this today is because of the response of Graham Smith and the hotel Management in San Francisco. They had a chance to handle this with respect to us and our experience. They actually made us feel bad and strung us along only to dump us 90 days later. We were told the hotel insurance company would handle it, well guess what? the insurance company denied our claim for no explainable reason. Now the Manager Graham Smith has refused to reimburse us for our loss in any way. It has been a horrible experience for us and the Hotel Management has made it worse. I have reserved my judgment of their actions until now. Now it is time for the public to understand what a bad business this truly is.
Please consider this a warning and immediately look for another hotel. We had 4 rooms that weekend with other partner businesses for a trade show and all of them had issues including cleanliness among other things I will not get into in this review. This is about safety and I do not believe you or your belongings are safe...
