Their pricing is deceptive. They have a 10% fee that isn't mentioned on their physical menu with pictures on their window, isn't mentioned on the menu that you see on a stand when you step inside, isn't mentioned on the board above the cashiers, and it isn't mentioned by any of the cashiers.
The only way you know about it is if you look at your receipt, after you have paid. I've attached a picture of our receipt as an example.
Edit: After looking at other reviews, I see that another customer noticed the same thing a week ago. The owner replied and clarified why they had the additional charge, which was not the issue that person mentioned, nor is it the issue that I am mentioning. The issue is the very deceptive placement of the extra charge.
It turns out that the extra charge is deliberately printed in small letters on the menu, below the disclaimer that says that eating fresh fish has health risks, which we all ignore. After reading this it's very apparent that the way the owner went about adding the additional fee was deliberately deceptive and they did not intend to be straightforward about it. That is disappointing. I had hoped it was merely a mistake and that I would be able to update my review once they realized and corrected the issue.
Edit 2: Their reply failed to address the issue again: that they hide the fee. The fee isn't the issue; them hiding the fee in small letters underneath a part that everyone skips is the issue. They keep deliberately side...
Read moreWe normally come here at least 1x a month in the last 6 months because its always been good. This last visit was disappointing, especially bringing my son who I wanted to try them out as he is a "foodie jr." They did not have Dungeoness crab unfortunately, which is what he wanted. If they don't have it I think they should put a sticky note on their outside / walk in menu sign for a heads up. Instead we got some appetizers, a kids meal and clam chowder bread bowl for my son. After a few bites and mixing the bowl, he said - "Mom- BUG BUG BUG!!!" -Yes, there was a roach nymph that floated atop his clam chowder after mixing it! He panicked and scooped it out immediately! My husband and I flagged a staff member to notify them and they went to management, who then asked if we wanted a refund or new food. Of course we wanted a refund. He stated he told the kitchen staff about it and refunded our entire order, which was a very nice thing to do, I have to admit and we super appreciated it. However, at this time, we will not be coming back for a long while. Hopefully their kitchen staff will be more aware of any pests and report it before it ends up...
Read moreright on Santa Monica pier in the middle of all the street vendors and many restaurants this restaurant caught my eye because of its very unique entrance and color. Nothing flashy but calming
Passing the entrance on the left is the menu on the wall where you can place your order with the cashier (in our case a young man that did not really want to work !).
To the left are a few tabes and benches in door but the main action is in the patio with additional sittings where you can enjoy the beautiful weather.
Food menu is good, we ordered clam chowder, grilled salmon, Fish & Chips and ahi poke. I recommend the clam chowder and the grilled salmon, but as for Fish&Chips all id say is that i have had better. The Ahi Poke's taste was ok but the portion is very small. Prices are ok too ! (Jan.2023) but remember you are paying for the location as well.
The restaurant is clean and the staff is always around to clean tables. parking , there is No parking. But that is a given considering its location.
Good place to hang out with friends and even to go on a casual date.
Would i go back ? Yes, but when the pier...
