My teenage son and I spent 1 night at the Ocean Lodge Hotel just under a week ago. It doesn't look like much from the outside. But the rooms were cute enough. Very BEACHY vibe. While the staff there were absolutely wonderful and extremely kind and helpful, I would say that the $400+ that I spent for the room for the one night, was NOT worth it. We had a 2 bedroom, 1 bath suite on the 2nd floor. (Main room, then a separate bedroom).
POSITIVES: comfy bed, AC in the main room worked well, refrigerator was SUPER cold (might want to turn that down...it actually froze one of my drinks), hair dryer and safe available (they're both in the closet), location was just 1 or 2 blocks off of the beach with the pier another couple of blocks over as well as restaurants and shops all over. Limited parking available (for a price). WiFi worked great! My teenager loved having his own room! And the gentleman who checked us in was very kind and helpful. There was a woman checking in with her friends and had a room upstairs and he helped her with her bags. Nice touch!
NEGATIVES: not much room to move. We could barely open and close the bedroom door because it would hit the bed. Just enough room in the main room to walk around that bed. No AC in the separate bedroom (but it did have a ceiling fan and you could open the window, but it was too hot and noisy to do that). The bathroom floor, especially around the baseboards and doors, was FILTHY. Somebody really needs to get a scrub brush and clean all the gunk out! No microwave. :( I had brought some food with us from a previous night and wanted to reheat it for lunch, but there wasn't a microwave. The parking is REALLY tight. I don't think anything larger than a mid-size SUV can make it through their little lot. I was told to park in a spot that I don't really think was an actual spot, but I guess they are making use of every little bit of space they have. I think the worst part was how extremely noisy it was. There is soooo much traffic that goes by there. And people in Santa Monica LOVE their car horns!!! And the restaurant next door, Chez Jay (or something similar) had quite a lively crowd. Between those patrons and the traffic, I could not fall asleep until the noise started dying down around 1 or 2 am.
We were there for less than 24 hours and neither of us tried out the bathtub/shower or the TV. So I can't comment on that.
All in all, I suppose if I was coming back to Santa Monica and looking for a place to stay, I MIGHT try this again if I had a better deal...and earplugs. But unfortunately, for the price, I don't think it's worth it. Then again, hotels close to the beach in Santa Monica, are all...
Read moreI normally don't share negative experiences because I try to give places a chance. Let me give some background first for better understanding of the current review. It would be about two weeks ago approximately, and my daughter and grand kids stayed at this place as a resting point until their final destination. I wanted to help my daughter enjoy herself along with the grand kids and so I made a call to the man who handles reservations. I wanted to pay for half of my daughters stay at this place and was going to charge this on a credit card. He shared with me that I would have to fill out an authorization form etc ( was going to email to me) . I told him I would go ahead and debit this instead since it was instant. Long story short, he did not do that, and took all of my debit card information. My daughter said they still charged her account the full amount. I then checked my account, and they had not debited my account, yet had all my information plus security code. It is June 5th, and I just called them to find out what happened, and concerned about who took my debit card information. I told him I was concerned about my card information, and he proceeds to verbally tell me " would you let me speak" I had not interrupted him at all, and I told him" hold on, you don't have to be rude" and he mumbled something and hung up on me. Warning, I think there is some theft going on with stealing credit card numbers, I will be calling the police now. Who would get so defensive unless there is something wrong. I have tried three times to call the hotel back and I was disconnected twice and so sadly this is...
Read moreOk like many others I travel all the time and can stay wherever I want, within reason. I choose IHG hotels for several reasons however Santa Monica does not have any IHG hotels?? so I found this place and although being somewhat primitive as far as modern day hotels go it's just average. The ac was ok when I finally figured out the system, decent shower, although antiquated bathroom. and yes as someone else stated in there review the door lock was a standard key like we used in 1960, remember those...haha, actually we didn't lock the doors then unless we went on vacation. didn't have to. I regress.... So I put in for one night thinking I'd finish my task at hand but realized I'd need another day so I left my stuff in the room, clothes, computer, ect Upon arrival after work I found I was locked out of my room! the deadbolt was locked down hard. I go to the office and to my surprise there's no one there. While I was paying for parking in the lot next door so as not to acquire a parking ticket due to little to no parking on hotel property. (You Def wont get a full grown pickup in there) The desk girl reappeared to inform me that I was ejected from my room because I only planned on being there one day. Folks, I'm not used to this type of service, or Anti service. Although the desk girl was nice and polite and had all my things for me locked down behind the counter, I don't believe i'll be returning
On the up side; Theres a cool little hole in the wall bar/restaurant right next door!! Happy...
