The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf — Restaurant in Santa Monica

was excited for a new coffee bean and tea leaf in Santa Monica. But was very disappointed in it. Employee (young,wearing hat) also reeked of Marijuana, and drink took him 15 minutes for them to make. I had to ask them twice about my order, but they “forgot” about my order. I had also waited patiently for my sandwich, and to my surprise. The sandwich was cold in the middle. Floors are very dirty, trash bins are always full. And the counters they placed my food on is disgusting. I don’t know how they have a health inspection with an A+. Shouldn’t be possible with how disgusting the atmosphere was. Also the amount of homeless people that entered the establishment was astonishing. So much that you can smell their lingering smell by just waiting for your drink. Also there is no parking, which is an odd ball for a busy coffee shop in a busy intersection. Also the prices for a latte is insane?? $6 for a small latte? Starbucks is way cheaper! And $7 for a burrito that is smaller than the palm of my hand! It is outrageous. Just opened 3 weeks ago! Staff greeted us with a smile. Melvin, especially was nice and kind. We just ordered 2 coffees, drip, and it took a few minutes. This might be because the staff is getting used to the new place.

The interior is clean. The trash bins are color coded for: Black for trash, Blue for recycling and Green for compost. I love that!

This is on the street level of the 2021 Medical buildings, on the east building.

Entrance is from SM Blvd.

Street parking is difficult to find on this busy corner/ area, so most of the customers either work in the nearby buildings or are patients in these buildings. I was fortunate and I walked here to see the new place.

Giving 3 stars bc we are SO HAPPY to have a CBTL in the hood, and the staff is so friendly and sweet so I WANT to give 5 stars. They also have a great dining selection. BUT!!!!! The prices are INSANE!!!! $5 for a simple small latte? You can’t be serious. Actually more expensive than another chain that shall not be named. And, ALL of the drinks are quite expensive. One thing I was looking forward to was being able to grab an affordable coffee on the way back from dropping my kids off at school, but seems like another place passing high rent prices on to the consumer (and focused on capitalizing on the medical crowd vs the actual residents of the neighborhood).
