Special Note : Culinary Director Daniel Greenough answered my question. . . Most of their DESSERTS are made on site, and fresh daily! 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

July 30, 2024 - The owners have “ Big Shoes” to fill in this historic spot on Rt. 1 in Saugus ! My wife is a Saugus Sachem ( graduated from Saugus H.S.) and whose family goes back 100 years in this quaint town.

Folks screamed to save The Big Cactus, and Hilltop Steak House. All that remains of Frank Giuffrada’s 1,500 seat restaurant is the CACTUS!

So we stopped in for lunch with my wife’s sister, at the 110 Grill , across from the old Kowloon’s Restaurant ! Although smaller in size, we liked the 110 Grill’s modern decor and outside seating arrangement.

Not crowded during a Tuesday weekday at lunch time, seated quickly by the hostess. Our server Haley approached with menus and coached us through our drink order.

We enjoyed our time in “ catching up” . . . with several cocktails , especially the Raspberry Lemon Sangria, excellent seasonal thirst quencher! I loved the Boston UFO Blueberry Ale 🍺!

Entrees arrived , Let’s Eat ! My wife enjoyed her fresh Fish & Chips! Her sister liked her Turkey Burger and fries! Such a surprise, a very good Chef special. . . Apricot Shrimp Risotto. . . Fantastic Chef! 😃👍🏼 Being a New Englander ( born in Massachusetts, lived 8 years in Maine) I had to try your Clam Chowder . Well I’m not a big fan of the THICK creamery style of chowdha, most use flour to add thickness, sadly decreases the clam flavor. I prefer the buttery broth loaded with clams, onions, potatoes, little or no bacon ( that can tilt the flavor toward the bacon).

Coming to the 110 Grill tonight (10/7) was definitely a mistake. My husband and I arrived at 5:35pm and were greeted and sat at a booth per my request. About 5 minutes passed before our waiter, Phil came over. He asked if we had ever been there before/ if we had any allergies, I said that we had not been there before and my husband said that he has a shellfish allergy. My husband ordered a peach mule and I ordered a pomegranate pear martini.

We each requested waters as well. About 7-10 minutes later, Phil returned with our alcoholic drinks, but no water. After dropping our alcoholic drinks off and no water, Phil disappeared. My husband caught the waiter while he was coming by to serve other tables and requested our waters, again. Phil took our orders as well- a short rib burger (special) for my husband with fries, and the 110 cucumber avocado tuna for me. Our drinks were okay, mine had gin in it which I didn't think paired well with the other flavors in the drink. My husband's peach mule was just okay.

The food was not great. They were delivered by a manager and another food runner/server. The short rib and fries were not seasoned for my husband. There was no ketchup with the fries. I tried one fry and agreed they needed more salt and pepper. They were extremely bland. My husband thought the short rib was not seasoned as well. The cucumber avocado tuna was okay. Even with the sauce mixed in to the rice/tuna/cucumber/avocado it tasted bland. There was too much cucumber as well.

During our meal, Phil never came around to ask how the food was or ask us if we wanted another drink. About 20-25 minutes before the end of our meal- we finally got waters, at the same time as another party that asked for them that had just been seated. Coincidence? I think not.

I will not be returning. This is the worst service I've had at a restaurant in years...

So let me start by saying we came in was seated and the table was filthy sticky and food on it and they moved us to another table and this table waS the same way and the Waiter Sean was one of the best waiters I've ever had in my life and he was on top of his game scrubbing down the table and getting us all new clean plates and silverware he kept checking in to make sure everything was to our liking and was fast with food delivery I appreciate this guys service he gets a 100% rating from me and now the food appetizers got the crackling shrimp and it was delicious sweet chili on shrimp was excellent and BBQ flat bread was also really great then I got the 14 oz Rib eye with garlic mashed potatoes and brussles prouts this was ok absolutely no flavor to the steak and for $47 this should have been juicy and taste buds begging for more but my wife got the 14oz whiskey Tips with 2 sides of garlic potatoes and let me tell u for $35 these tips were good they had a lot of flavor and was a decent portion we stopped and didn't get desert I was too disappointed after my Steak but it's a lil pricey here but the service was impeccable and the owners should be giving Sean a raise he was the best part of the meal with his. Service and now then send a message totally disregarding wat I said and said thanks for the review see u next time amd he didn't understand my review I will not be returning here any time soon I thought there was cleaning protocols for restaurants after covid and this place does not follow them obviously because wet wipes are not a sufficient way to clean a tabel so I will not be coming...

They take allergies very seriously. As someone who is gluten free and also has many food intolerances, it is very difficult to eat out. I rarely eat away from home. But we were on a family vacation in Salem MA and so I researched safe food options ahead of our trip. I was very grateful to find the 110 Grill in Saugus. When we arrived, we were immediately asked if we needed a gluten free menu. Upon sitting down our waitress explained that they were a made from scratch kitchen and therefore they could make anything to order to ensure that I could eat safely. I had multiple questions about ingredients used in a few dishes and our waitress was very kind and patient in answering my questions. I ended up ordering salmon with a side of jasmine rice and steamed broccoli. I needed everything without seasoning, and they were more than happy to accommodate these specifications. My meal was very good, and the portion was generous. My only complaint was that service was very slow. We ended up being there two hours in total. And had to wait long stretches of time in-between receiving drinks, appetizers, entrees and getting the check to pay. Our group had 5 people total. I noticed that a lot of to-go/pick-up orders were going out and that seemed to slow down service for those dining in. I'm not sure if it was just an off night or what. But overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant. To be able to eat safely away from home, means the world to me
