I used to go here when I was a little girl and I remember there steak and cheese was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately after moving out of the area and going to other places, I stopped coming here. Years later I moved back to Saugus and when my two favorite sub shops closed I tried my luck again here. The owners have since changed and I was nervous it wasnt going to be what i remembered.
I started with the pizza. Large cheese with pepperoni and salami. Right off the bat I could tell it was Italian pizza and not Greek. My first bite and myself and family fell in love. The true test was tonight....the infamous steak and cheese with extra cheese.
Comes in one size, on a braided roll (I prefer sub rolls but that's okay). I noticed the steak wasnt all clumped together and was shaved. The cheese oozed out. The first bite put a smile on my face and the happy dance commenced. ITS DELICIOUS! I can taste a slight bit of onion from the grill the steak was on that gives it a bit more flavor. I can taste the pepper and the steak was from a nice cut. Its official I'd say...J&M has great food that's moderately priced and the delivery has always been quick.
Great job J&M and keep it up! You never know when a huge steak and cheese fanatic is looking to review not just your subs, but food as well! I would recommend the pizza and steak and cheese at this time. I haven't tried anything else...YET.
(Oh and the cherry on top of this cake? They wrap their subs in tin foil! You dont know how disgusting it is when a shop wraps their subs in...
Read moreUPDATE: Finally got my meatball sub. Fantastic. Not only have I gotten my meatball sub, but we have been ordering from here almost once a week (we stopped ordering from Nick's around the corner cuz their food went downhill and prices sky rocketed.) I've gotten meatballs as a side and even a meatball Sicilian Pizza. I have also tried the chicken kabob salad. Love their food here!! They really do have good meatballs and great food.
I moved to Saugus almost 2 years ago (from out of state) and this year I been trying to get a good meatball sub. My bf says this is the best place to get meatballs because they are homemade... In the past 2-3 months... I still haven't been able to get my meatball sub. 1st time - out of meatballs 2nd time - closed due to AC being broken (but understandable it was over 100° outside) And then tonight.... Out of meatballs again.
But besides the fact I haven't been able to get a meatball sub... The food is good and a great price and a huge portion of food.
When I finally get a meatball sub... I'll update...
Read morethis place is so effing good, it makes me want to cuss! haha where do I start... I got meatballs as an appetizer. Delicious! very tender and juicy, perfectly seasoned, and the marinara that it comes with is very flavorful! would have loved a crostini or 2 to savor the leftover sauce, but no worries - I used pizza crust! Pizza was excellent! tried both the sicilian and a regular pie. finally Boston Italian as I remember it! been out of state for about two decades and came back to an oversaturation of Greek pizza joints - each more disappointing than the last.
I also tried their Italian sub. so so so good! the meats and toppings we're very fresh tasting. crispy lettuce and the perfect amount of spice in the hots mix. special shout out to whoever makes the sub rolls... so soft and airy. not that same old bagged bread that you get everywhere else - this tasted homemade. I'm going to stop my rave review here before people start to think it's a paid ad haha My new favorite spot can't wait...
