I LOVE them. I live in the Twin Cities so I usually order for delivery or meet them when they make one of their regular trips down here. Some day I'll make it up there for reals! Anyways came here to say, all of their products are amazing. Like just flat out amazing. Not "amazing... for gluten free" nope just flat out amazingly good.My favorites are their cinnamon swirl bread and their fried donuts but I have tried many of their other products and have never been disappointed. The fried donuts I have to hide from my gluten-eating other half because they are soo good. We use the cinnamon swirl bread to make french toast. The first time I used it to make french toast, I made a serving of three slices each for my boyfriend and me but that didn't consume the whole loaf so I was saved some for regular toast for me later. You'd think 3 large slices is a reasonable serving size right? Nope, my boyfriend (who eats gluten) got mad that I didn't make enough for seconds so now I make the whole loaf into French toast and we glutunously consume it all in one brunch, just the two of us.
Now, for those people out there thinking, "what the heck it cant be that good, it must all be fake because nobody has any bad reviews", here's my "tiny violin" complaint too soothe you: Sometimes the bread is SOO fluffy that I have a hard time slicing it or just generally handling it without crushing it. I haven't had this problem since going gluten free. Everyone else's GF bread is so weirdly dry and spongy thats it's kind of indestructible. No disrespect to the canyon bakehouse brand (which I still buy regularly because, convenience) but the bag boy at my local grocery store put a heavy jar of PB on top of a loaf of that bread a couple weeks ago and it didn't make a dent. Ever done that to wonderbread? Obliterated. This is a completely foreign problem to me now that I only buy GF bread but Mixin' it up has reintroduced this problem to my life. I used to have a ton of nice serrated bread friendly knives in my kitchen to slice fluffy brioche-type breads without crushing them. But after 3 years of eating gluten free bread, those knives seem to have just lost relevance in my kitchen and sometimes I crush their bread when I can't find a good knife. So there it is- my "tiny violin" complaint is that their bread is so soft and fluffy that I have to be careful with bread again. Queue the world's smallest violin orchestra because Mixin' it up has raised my standards for bread back up...
Read moreI’ve intended to write this review for some time but have been busy with school. I usually almost never review things but my experience at this place was so poor that I am inclined to share with others.
A few months ago (mid-September), I ordered a custom-made cake from this bakery to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday (order was made TWO WEEKS before the birthday), specifically requesting certain designs and details that I was excited to see. Despite the high quote of $85 for a fairly simple design, I trusted their expertise. However, when I arrived to pick up the cake ON THE DAY of his birthday, I was extremely disappointed—the size was different from what I ordered, and the designs I’d requested were missing entirely.
When I calmly voiced my concerns to a skinnier blonde woman at the front counter, I was met with an unexpectedly unprofessional response. Instead of listening or addressing my concerns, she dismissed them with rude remarks, acting as if I was the one being unreasonable when it was their mistake. Their initial offer of a $5–$15 refund felt insulting given the amount I’d paid and the poor quality of service.
Thankfully, an older employee stepped in and suggested offering me some older cupcakes as compensation, which was at least a genuine attempt to make amends. Unfortunately, the blonde employee continued her condescending behavior, even beckoning me with her pointer finger—a gesture that came off as disrespectful and demeaning. Her attitude left me feeling that racial bias may have played a role, as the experience felt particularly dismissive and belittling toward me as a person of color.
In conclusion, I would not recommend this bakery to anyone who values respectful and professional customer service—especially fellow people of color, as my experience raised concerns about underlying biases from certain staff members. If I could rate this place a zero, I...
Read moreThe showcase was unkept and messy. The macarons looked crumbly and old. The labels were all wrong for all of the bars. The cashier explained that the trays had been refilled (to overflowing) and she did not move the labels accordingly after putting the trays back. The other cashier was busy talking with a very loud friend and the echo in there was painful. We purchased breads that were $10.00 each. We also purchase a half dozen bars for the tune of $12.00. Two of the bars were corner pieces. For the price they are charging they should ask if we like corner pieces. We were told to cut the bread, wrap each piece individually and freeze as it would mold quickly and apparently stick together…. When I cut the honey oatmeal it was so gummy in the middle it tore the bread apart and I used a bread knife. The garlic loaf fared a bit better but did not taste much different than the honey loaf. For $10.00 a loaf, the bread should be precut and the pieces separated by wax paper. We will not be a returning customer. The atmosphere was nearly intolerable and getting two corner pieces out of of six bars unacceptable. The bread was dense and gummy. It might have been undercooked and or underproofed. The bars were just ok. I am surprised they are still in business. There are other GF bakeries that are...
