Shivers Inc — Restaurant in Savanna

My kids and I stopped by Shivers when we biked into town after exploring the beautiful nature trails in Savannah, IL. It was very hot, 105° with the heat index. We arrived at 2:00 but it was closed. Google had said that they opened at 11:00 but the sign said 4:00. We were super bummed! As we went across the parking lot I started talking to a woman parked near the store that turned out to be the owner, Coralee. I laughed and told her we were there for ice cream and didn't realize she was closed. I asked if there was another ice cream shop in town... which apparently there isn't unless we wanted to bike across the Mississippi river she said. She laughed and then offered to open the store for us! She was so incredibly nice!! I told her it wasn't necessary but she insisted...she said she was there anyway because she had a shipment coming in. She then brought us inside, uncovered the ice cream tubs and told the kids they could sample anything they liked. She explained how short staffed they have been which is why they didn't open until 4:00 now. She got us each scoops of ice cream, let us sit down in the nice air conditioning and we just chatted about her business and her grandkids and such. She would not even let us pay!!! She said her cash register and card scanner weren't open yet anyway and she was happy for it to be on the house. I offered to give her cash and she still refused! She honestly has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met. When her delivery truck came she told us we could stay as long as we liked and then disappeared to handle that. We slipped the cash into the tip jar, finished our ice cream, cleaned up our table and left. My kids talked all the way back on the trails how nice she was to have done that. They are STILL talking about it a couple weeks later! Thank you so much Coralee... you totally made our day! I would recommend this business to anyone and everyone!! Hopefully she can find more help so she can be open her...

The owner is so rude!! The staff are all so sweet but the owner is really something else! 😡 I ordered something with an unusual request and as I was waiting, I overheard the owner question it to the worker (who took my order back to her) in such a rude way!! It made me feel stupid and so embarrassed that I took it off the order :( it wasn’t even a difficult request at all!! Service exceed expectations. The cheese burger was the right size for a Midwestern burger basket. And the order was correct. Per Shivers suggestion, I tried the wisconsin cheese balls with ranch dressing over the choice french fries. This was a nice change in my habit of fries always.

Also, a surprise to me is the high number of ice creams choices that one can select. It reminded me of the old 33 flavors ice creams from my youth. I'm older now and my tastes are...
