This is a solid fried fish takeout. I happened here by shear chance as I was in the mood for a Lenten fried fish meal but another restaurant in the area had closed. I found this on Google. When you go in, the place is impeccably clean, no fried odor, spotless. Its a small space, takeout only. The employee (owner?) who served me was attentive and to the point. She was the only one there doing the front of the house and she was managing great. I did a phone in order from the online menu which listed their fried seafood offerings but when I went in I found out that they actually have some daily non fried side offerings like soul food type items such as red beans and rice, greens and also spaghetti. It wasn't listed on their website you would have to inquire when calling. The fish fry was solid, its a very light salty cornmeal type coating, not thick or greasy. I had the catfish filets, jumbo shrimp and cod nuggets. The seasoning was well done, a little salty, didn't require any extra seasoning . I ordered some of their mild sauce which tasted similar to a Louisiana style hot sauce, some homemade tarter which was above the usual expected average and homemade definitely not out of a jar. Cocktail sauce was solid standard tasty. I was pleasantly surprised by the potato salad... Didn't know what to expect. A lot of places might have some sort of commercial potato salad with too much mayonnaise and probably sucked. But this was actually a very nice homemade potato salad, not overly mayonnaise, fresh flavor This was very nicely flavored. Same with the coleslaw. It's all homemade here and you can tell its done in small batches, fresh quality. The price was commensurate with the quality of the fish that was served. Overall, I would highly recommend this place! I'll definitely would be back and can't wait to try some of their non-fried side items.
The only comment I could give to the restaurant would be to update their menu for how the sauces are ordered and perhaps a preview of the daily side items that could be ordered. Otherwise I could ask when I call but it would have to be more of an on-the-fly order and I wouldn't want to waste too much of the employees time deciding over all...
Read moreI loved speaking with the wife/hostess/greeter and the daughter over the phone and the wife in person. I first tried the perch fish. It was amazing amazing. So before I left the state of IL I had to stop by in person to get multiple new experiences. I think now I got potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, mac n cheese, fried chicken, butter cookies, yams, dirty rice and collard greens. I was supposed to have corn muffins but they were missed. Fried chicken was definitely for experience purposes with the (dirty bird) I would rate it a 3 for appearance but when I opened it us it was not giving :( it was not no where good as I anticipated for a cheat day experience and that was a hard NO for me; it had outside appearance crunch golden brown but once I pulled it apart piping hot smh wtf....moving on. Yams a hitter, mac n cheese was different for me but well pleasing good. The dirty rice was dirty and okayyyy :) happy dance. I was worned that the pasta salad was good and it DID NOT fail yesssss wife I loved it; the butter cookies were giving old school lunch room lady/mom butter cookies I am not sharing vibe; I enjoyed my experience with the coleslaw yum now I see why my daughter snatched mine from delicious perch fish but I am moving on. The collard greens were yessss okay I am feeling you Auntie, Granny's house good and you are doing the two step in your chair while digesting feeling ohhhh sooo good. Bs Shrimp you definitely have "IT"....now I am really not a meat eater but when I do adventure out I am excited to try at times.....the fried perch will get me to try other fish and shrimps in the future. Thank you all for your contribution and cooking overall a 4/5 or a 8.5/10 however you want to slice the pie! Next time i will have the photos child I was sooo hungry I was like lets...
Read moreThis was one of the best po boys I've ever had in my life!! I'm somewhat of a connoisseur, as I'm used to the po boys down south in new Orleans and Atlanta. I got
-shrimp po boys (x-tomato) with fries -one of each sauce -peach cobbler
On my 15 minute drive home everything was still fresh and warm and crispy.
-Fries were SO perfectly seasoned I almost didn't even need a sauce, which for me is crazy as I need a sauce with everything (but I always try it first without). -The po boy...my god. It was so crispy, fresh, the shrimps were perfectly battered (hate when they hide the shrimp between 10 layers of batter), the lettuce was fresh and surprisingly not wilted by the time I got to my destination. I'm not one for cheese on my po boys, and almost got it without, but im actually really glad I kept the cheese on. -Sauces were all great, the Roumalade is where it's at though. I could've really just had 10 of those and been happy! The tarter was a bit less zesty/tart than what I'm used to, but I ended up putting the hot sauce in it and it was delicious -peach cobbler i have yet to try, but it looks so glossy and creamy, will be eating tonight!
The service was really just the cherry on top. Elizabeth, the owner, is the one who greeted me, and she was just a doll. She's a sauce queen, like me, so she made sure I try every single sauce! And gave me the peach cobbler on the house as it's my first time there. She's just the sweetest! You can tell her, her husband, and her son just have so much fun together. I'm just so warmed by my experience there, as she went so above and beyond, AND my food was impeccable. I'm quite the critique with my food, and only rate honest to what I feel, and this place...
