"Good Guinness for the burbs." That was my review 8 years ago. But this place is more than just good Guinness. What I witnessed recently was so fantastic, I want to share the story of one of the most amazing service deliveries I've ever witnessed.
I came into Finn McCool's one Wednesday night and sat at the bar. At one of the tables nearby were two people, one of whom seemed like a loud and obnoxious patron. She would suddenly shout out a strange noise and just seemed a bit out of control.
I'm ashamed I didn't realize it sooner but I eventually concluded she had some type of neurological condition and couldn't really control her outbursts.
Nonetheless, I watched in awe as one of the server / bartenders walked over to the table and with skills rarely seen, took the order at the table and proceeded to serve them in the same friendly manner as she served every other table and those of us at the bar. Not just with a smile, but with a genuine sense of care for the patrons.
Others may have rolled their eyes at the thought of serving this unusual patron and her companion, but Ashley B. didn't change her approach at all.
All of the other bartenders there are very professional, Suzzanne, Danielle to call out a few. But what I witnessed by Ashley that night was service on another level altogether. She treated her customer with such humanity and dignity that I would guess the customer felt recognized and treated with respect. My guess is that is not the typical reaction she gets.
I know I've been long in this compliment but I can assure you, if you would have seen Ashley in action at that moment you would be in as much awe as I was.
I hope there is something special you can do for her to recognize what an asset she is to your...
Read moreWent on a Thursday night with a group of seven people. The restaurant was half full and not too packed.
Our waitress was the only one waiting tables and all in all, she did a great job considering there was no other staff to help. She got all the orders right.
The bartender, on the other hand, looked at me several times while I was waiting at the bar for nearly 15 minutes and she didn't even acknowledge me or say "I'll get to you in a moment." I would have understood. The bar was mostly empty and while I get you have to do drink orders for everyone, it is good service to acknowledge and take someone's order when you look at them and even walk past them several times. Several people at the bar were frustrated by being completely ignored or having their check messed up over and over. At one time during the night, the bar was left unattended for a period of more than ten minutes.
I was only going to the bar because I knew the waitress would take a while to come back around due to staffing shortages.
While the food was okay, this place desperately needs more waiters because a lot of people walked out due to frustration. Luckily I was with a group in deep conversation so we were able to be more patient. Major kudos to our waitress though. Whatever her name was, I felt bad that she was put in...
Read moreI would consider this a lunch spot rather than a good bar. Went for lunch on a Friday, lots of open tables with a seat yourself sign.
Started with an order of fried pickle fries. These are pickles run though a fry cutter, breaded and fried. They are served with a thinned down ranch sauce. The pickles themselves were well done breaded and fried properly. The pickles had a little spice to them - not over the top, but good. This was a well done app.
For lunch, I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich. It was a good sandwich - very good bun, coleslaw with a touch of vinegar, thick cut pickle chips, and a very well prepared breaded chicken breast. The only disappointment was that the sauce was all sweet, with no heat. At all. The spiciest thing about the sauce was the cinnamon in it.
Waitstaff was attentive without being annoying. Getting drink refills and checking on us without being obtrusive.
One strange thing is that their pizza is Morretti's. There is a Morretti's next door, but I don't know if they bring it over or make it on site. Kind of weird.
Will probably go...
