If I could rate the breakfast buffet separately, it would be 5 stars. The variety and quality was superb and well worth the price, especially since beverages are included, given that most places will upcharge $7-$10 for a small glass of orange juice. The burgers weren’t great, fries were inconsistent, some meals they were overcooked, others they were under-seasoned. The salad with steak is probably the best value and it was a decent meal. The difference in food quality between breakfast and lunch/dinner is perplexing.
However, that is not the highlight of our experience. The kitchen staff was overly accommodating, HOWEVER our waitress Christina was AMAZING. I am a type 1 diabetic and to keep my glucose levels steady throughout the day, I add chia seeds to my meal. I also have MS and keeping my BG levels regular helps with my energy. I forgot to pack them for the trip, and the event was a comic-con type convention lasting several days. Given the amazing variety offered at the breakfast bar, I asked the kitchen staff if they had chia seeds. They looked everywhere, even sending people downstairs to the storage room. Christina saw me waiting and when I explained, she said “go sit and eat, if they find them, I will bring them to you”. Unfortunately, they didn’t find any that day, but as soon as we arrived the next morning, Christina welcomed us with a huge smile, so happy to tell me that she “found” chia seeds and set them aside for me. I’m positive that she either bought them herself or she had the kitchen order them, but either way it was a level of service that is incredibly rare and I will never forget it. It made a huge difference in my overall experience that day. When I was talking to others at the convention about it, they all correctly guessed that it was Christina who provided the wonderful service and they raved about her as well. We even saw customers hugging her goodbye. She clearly has a gift.
I’m sure that management is aware that Marriott has a titanium level employee on their books at the Schaumburg Public House, but if you happen to stay at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center, do yourself a favor and stop in for breakfast with Christina. You will...
Read moreFirst, I think you should know that this is a hotel restaurant, that is also a part of a big convention center. We didn't notice this, until we were pulling in and would have liked to know this beforehand, as we may not have went. The restaurant is upstairs from the u-shaped drop off point in the parking lot. The first impression is that the place is nice, bright and clean. We told the host that we wanted a table for two and he said the bar has open tables and took us there. This isn't what we really wanted, would have rather a regular table, but we just rolled with it. The entire restaurant was lightly populated with customers and we received very fast/courteous attention from the bar tender. The bar tables are built into a large bench that extends one side of the bar and then very small, hard and uncomfortable chairs on the other side of them. The bench is super deep and if you leaned back, there would be no way you could reach the tables. The food came quickly and all was just okay in flavor. One of our orders was a grilled chicken salad and it mentioned anchovies, so we inquired about not getting them and the waitress said, no worries, it won't come with them, and it in fact did come with them, so they quickly remade it without them. The salad was a bit bland but okay overall. We had a brisket grilled cheese sandwich that was also okay. The prices were average and we walked out feeling that we would only return if we were hungry, in the area and no events going on at the convention center, as the parking is crazy when it's busy, as one would expect if they knew that is where this...
Read moreWe stayed at the adjacent hotel. ROOM SERVICE: 1 star Tried multiple times to call for soup of the day and also for an incorrect order. Answering machine always came on, yet no one called back. The front desk was busy and clerk said she wasn't able to walk over to the restaurant. Totally understandable and not what I was asking them to do. If this restaurant wants to be able to give room service they should have a separate line for hotel guests to call for menu questions. FOOD: 2 or 3 stars depending what you order. Dinner- the pasta in sauce was very salty, the salmon was okay but the sauce had so much oil there was a layer of grease floating on sauce. Breakfast - bagel and cream cheese. Hot bagel, toasted nicely. Not much you can do to wreck a bagel. Bagel choices were not given. Luckily my daughter likes everything bagels. The staff that delivered the food were nice. The cutlery and plates are all plastic that is allegedly recyclable but how much ends up in trash? Would be better for the environment if they used reusable/washable dinnerware. Won't be using room service from this...
