Checked out Porto's Peri Peri (Kingsport Plaza on Roselle Road, by the Taco Bell) last night. Discovered thankfully due to this group. Blew us away! Deliciously flavorful marinated grilled chicken served with your choice level of spicy and floral peri peri sauces. The wife stuck with mild, I went with hot, and The Boy (of course), went for the extra hot. Yes, there IS heat in these sauces but it's not the BS kind of heat/pain you find with those other crazy hot sauces. This is all about flavor, not pain There are dimensions of flavor in these sauces that beg going back another bite, another taste, just more! If you're turned off or intolerant to heat, the mild is right up your alley. The sides of the rice, the perimayo corn (think elotes but Afro-Portugese style), and the cassava fries were total winners. The cassava fries may take some getting used to for the uninitiated, but well worth it. There is a sweet, floral, almost pefumy undertone to those fries that marries perfectly with the peri peri salt. For apps (so sad they were out of the mixed olives), we tried the grilled paneer (a hard cheese) in their lemon sauce and their falafal patties in a mild peri peri sauce, both were to die for. The table sauces of a hot peri peri and a creamy white garlic sauce were excellent additions, too and worked wonderfully with the fries. We had a chance to have a nice chat with the owner/manager who is one hell of a fine human and very appreciative of his customers. He even warned us right away that the extra hot was really hit, something he admits even he stays away from. The rest of the staff were friendly and wonderful humans, too. Best endorsement... The Boy (who's 17 and lives with mom in Lake in the Hills) wants to take his HS friends there. As he puts it: "We've got nothing good like this where I live." Truer words have never been spoken. Seriously, check them out, be adventurous, put your "food fears" aside. You won't be...

RE: Order # X1V-9QU
My husband and I tried your Algonquin location about 6 weeks ago. We loved everything about it. The decision was happily made shortly there after to enhance our son’s rehearsal dinner with your delicious wings and falafel. I ordered online and understood the delivery would be coming from your Chicago UIC location. Our rehearsal dinner was being held very close to this location. I received an email confirmation from EZ CATER around 3:30pm on 8/31 (the day of the event) with a delivery window of 6:30-6:45.
Here’s where it gets ugly.... I started calling EZ Cater at 6:45pm to get an update on the delivery window. I was on hold with a very polite and concerned representative who had to keep placing me on hold as she was trying to reach someone onsite at the restaurant. My daughter was also trying to reach the restaurant as well. My daughter got through finally. Here’s the unreal part, the restaurant informed her that a manager did not convey the order to the staff. They placed her on hold and NEVER CAME BACK!! She gave up and hung up after 9 mins. . EZ Cater communicated to me at 7:00pm that the order was being refused. How does that even happen?? I had an email confirmation that I had paid for! This was a very important night and your food was a part of the celebration. What a mess! I’ve been in the food/catering industry for years and could never imagine demonstrating anything of the sort. I’m looking forward to see what customer recovery efforts you offer. You can bet if it doesn’t match the inconvenience and horrendous lack customer service that evening, I will never walk in your restaurant again and also this review will appear on many social...
Read moreI really enjoyed my visit tonight to The Port of Peri Peri Schaumburg and will be back soon to eat in and order takeout - the food I ordered was delicious, there was speedy and friendly service, and the setup for dining in was especially comfortable and clean. I was pleasantly surprised to find sturdy metal flatware at the tables, including larger steak knives to cut thicker textured food like cuts of meat, since a lot of places that offer counter service usually only have plastic utensils to offer at best. There are also napkins and salt & pepper at the tables; if you order food and request it, there are also tasty chili & garlic sauces that you can add to your liking.
The food I got came in generous portion sizes. I will have more than enough for lunch tomorrow and probably enough to share with my husband. The lemon herb chicken & rice came with 4 large, boneless, well-trimmed from fat & gristle pieces of juicy chicken that was cooked to have a nice char on the outside without being burnt and had a lot of the lemon sauce. The rice was fluffy and complemented the chicken well. I also ordered peri cassava fries which were crisp on the outside and cooked through without being mushy on the inside. There are canned Coke drinks available along with Joe teas, I ordered a Sprite with my meal and also ordered an Adeni Chai with sugar to go near the end of my meal. It’s not pictured but perfect - not too sweet and a good balance of spices. It comes very hot in a well insulated to go coffee cup, so take the lid off to vent it if you want to drink it sooner. It would be nice to take with after a meal on a cold day - sipping it feels...
