Today was my third visit to this location. Brought my husband this time because we were craving Asian food. The previous 2 visits went just fine, the food is very good, not great. Service is usually a little on the slower side, but friendly enough. Our visit tonight went ok until dessert... We ordered a sticky rice with custard for dessert, something we have had more times than I can count at various Thai restaurants. Every restaurant's custard is a little different, they all have unique recipes, I get that. However, the minute this custard was brought out, I could tell something wasn't right. It had a curdled look to it and was a greenish color instead of the yellow or beige we usually see. After a couple of seconds, the smell hit me...rotten eggs! The custard was made with what was clearly a BAD egg! The smell was so bad I was gagging on it. My husband was a brave soul and tried the tiniest nibble just to make sure and he immediately spat it out. We told the waiter and he offered to bring us a replacement with ice cream instead. Except, we never got a replacement because the OWNER, AJ, refused to replace it! She actually came out and ARGUED with us, saying it wasn't a bad egg, it's just how they make it there, and basically told us we were crazy. I cannot conceive of how insane this woman was to come out and argue something like that. We were very polite about the whole thing, bad eggs can happen to anyone, it doesn't mean you run a dirty kitchen or are trying to pass of expired foods, sometimes it just happens. We get that, and tried to tell her that, but she didn't want to hear it. Finally my husband just said he was done arguing about it and to bring us the check, but without the sticky rice charge on it. Our waiter brought the check, we were not charged for the bad item, but we will not be back. He was so apologetic for his boss, and said this actually happens a lot (her arguing with guests). I now know why Siam is never very busy, even though the food is pretty good. How many customers has the owner run off because she cannot admit something might not have gone perfectly? Insane way to run a customer based business. Please do not give Siam your business, do not support the bad behaviour of the owner. If something goes wrong, she will come out and argue with you about it, and no one wants to have that experience. Ruined our entire evening. P.S. Our tab was $50 before the dessert, so again, we were giving them plenty of money, but now they have lost our business for...
Read moreThe food is excellent but portion sizes need to be larger or at least come with some spring rolls or soup.
I've eaten here in the past multiple times but quit visiting two to the portion sizes and prices. Most times on the menu are priced at $10 which is a little above average for Thai restaurants. I had hoped that on this visit either prices would have gone down or portion sizes up, but that was not the case.
Many Thai restaurants bring out a soup before your meal or include a spring roll with your entree, but Siam Cuisine does not.
On this visit I arrived for dinner and the restaurant was half full. I placed my order for beef pad thai and shortly after the dinner crowd started arriving. It took about 22 minutes for my order to come out.
While I was waiting at the table and using my phone another waitress walked up to the table to tell me if I wasn't a customer I needed to leave. My waitress stopped her before she finish her sentence.
It's pretty bad that I was sitting there with an empty table so long but they thought I was just sitting inside using the internet.
When the pad thai came out it had excellent flavor and was really good, the only downside was that I knew I wouldn't be full when I finished it. When the waitress came back to ask if I wanted anything else I asked for the menu so I could order another entree.
For my second entree I ordered the yum nah ( beef salad). The beef salad only took about 8 minutes to come out. The flavor was excellent on this item as well portion size a little better. As I started to eat I noticed however there was barely any lettuce and the bulk of the mail was cucumbers. I think my plate had at least one whole cucumber. Again with things that make the portion small, the beef salad at most restaurants comes with a side of steamed rice but comes with nothing here.
The service was good and the waitress came back to check on me multiple times before and during my meal.
It is the portion size alone that ended my dining at this restaurant in the past. I returned hoping things had possibly changed only to find everything the same over two years later. My only advice is to order an appetizer before your meal otherwise you will most likely be leaving...
Read moreThis is the first time I've ever given a restaurant a one star. :(
I Googled this place, saw that it had good reviews, and decided to go get some take out this evening (it's a Friday in July). The small-ish restaurant was about 60% full at 7:30pm.
It was a bit awkward that I had to walk all the way across the dining room and stand in line next to tables that had couples and families eating their dinner. I felt like I was intruding on their space.
I ordered and the lady behind the counter kept trying to get me to order something else. I ordered beef, she kept pushing chicken. I ordered pork, she kept pushing chicken. I insisted that I wanted beef and pork. She relented, I paid and she asked me to take a seat at one of the tables.
30 minutes later, I'm STILL sitting at the table as I've watched people come into the dining room, order and get served! I got up and asked about my order and everyone behind the counter apologized and scrambled like a swarm of bees to find out what's up. It was THEN they ask if I'd like anything to drink while I wait. Seriously?
They bring the food a few minutes later after I made it plain that I was not happy about having to wait so long for one appetizer (satay) and one entree (Panang).
I get home and discover that they gave me CHICKEN satay when I specifically asked for pork! And if that isn't bad enough, I start to eat my Panang beef and was so salty and greasy, I couldn't even finish it!
We just relocated here from Chicago and we used to eat Thai food once every couple of weeks from a few places in our area. I've never eaten Thai as bad as I had tonight. We will NOT be back to this place. :( :(
I saw that the place on Pat Booker in Live Oak is Zagat rated,...
