Mountain Deli — Restaurant in Scotch Plains

While the food is good , as others have stated the service is inconsistent. A week ago i walked in ordered 1 bacon egg cheese sandwich plus just an egg cheese sandwich . Was charged $7 for each when it should have been $7 for BEC and $5.25 for egg n cheese as per their menu signs . This week I went in again ordered one sandwich and asked how much an egg and cheese was . Response was $5.35 . Then I explained to the young cashier how I was overcharged last week . She was very polite while the other young lady behind here - who was the one that overcharged me- started gettig uppity. At which point I said 'And it was her" pointing to this other person ' that overcharged me" . The cashier started to apologize and give me a refund and the uppity one said 'No thats not correct. dont do that" and started arguing with me. I simply responded by saying " i am not here to argue with you guys I am just telling you what happened. This young lady had a major attitude, told me I was wrong and that what I paid was correct etc. I said "well judging by both your menu prices signs I am right. but I guess here the customer is never right." Meanwhile the cashier was very understanding and said 'we will try harder to make sure " ..etc etc which was fine for me. The other person was still with an attitude and closed the cash reg drawer on her. So they lost yet another...

I have been coming here once or twice a week for the last decade but after today never again. I bit my tounge for the last 2 years with them overcharging me $2-3 dollars more then their online menu and price in- store is always inconsistant as well, I chalked it up to the Pandemic. Today was the straw that broke the camels back, I call in for a Turkey sub with gravy (listed on their menu $5.35 knowing well it will cost at least $8 at pickup) the woman answered the phone was unfriendly and stated we don't serve gravy. I responded that my order was placed many times before with gravy she then proceeded to tell me that she thinks they are all out. I needed to order a very nice lunch platter for a friend’s Shiva and the owner Jackie and her son went above and beyond to make it happen for my friend’s and me. They not only accommodated my request on a holiday weekend but were genuinely happy to help me. I heard the sandwiches were fantastic and beautifully presented. Thank you again, Jackie, and the staff at this wonderful deli! I will forever be grateful for your “can-do” attitude...
