Read moreWent out of my way to come here. It had been so long since I had had some good cracklins, so I stopped by to grab a bag from Don's. I should've known something was up when I walked through the door and there was the faint smell of burned oil in the air. I got a bag anyway, and soon as we got back on the interstate, I couldn't wait anymore, I was excited to dig in. I opened the bag to find the worst quality cracklins I have ever purchased. Extremely dry, smelled and tasted burnt, and were hard as a rock. Almost seems like leftovers they tried to pass as fresh from the day before by throwing them back in the grease to warm them up. Since I spent nearly 20 dollars on them and was too far to turn back I did my best to try to not waste them. I work hard for my money just like you. I was so let down. They smelled up the whole car. When you bite into a cracklin you're expecting to be a little chewy, hot and fresh, and it's so dry if you do have the strength to chew it it turns to a chokable stringy dust, that is a let down. I had an entire bag of just that. If you take some time to go through the reviews on here, I believe this must be an ongoing problem as this is not the only complaint about the cracklins. The people selling the cracklins should be required to sample them. No WAY if they'd taste one of these they'd try to sell them. The sticker on the bag says "quality first" and "best homemade boudin and cracklins". I am a Louisiana resident and native and I can tell you these slogans miss their mark. This is actually the second time I've had bad cracklins here. This review, however is of the ones I just purchased. If you are reading this and stop there, please ask for a sample if you're ordering "seasoned pork cracklins". They should have a little give and should be meaty and tender and full of flavor. If they have an off burnt taste or they're so dry they seem to swell and choke you, pass on them. Scott Louisiana is supposed to be where everyone wants to stop to get some amazing cajun food and snacks and there's too much competition in that area for you to waste your money. **To be noted and fair: this review should not be taken as a direct reflection of other items this business sells. I only purchased cracklins on this trip and nothing else. I've bought meats and boudin here for years and it's always good quality. The staff is always friendly and eager to...

On my way from Texas to Georgia, I stopped by DON’S SPECIALTY MEATS and bought about $80 worth of sausage fall in love with their homemade smoked sausage that comes in a 12 pack. Not long after that trip, I ordered some sausage online and it arrived in good time and order.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, I was making a trip from Georgia back to Texas. I thought it would be wonderful if I could bring my family some of their great sausage, in time for the Super Bowl the following Sunday. Unfortunately, my GPS told me that I would not reach Scott Louisiana until 7:15 PM, 15 minutes after DON’S SPECIALTY MEATS closes!
I contacted the store and spoke to the person who answered the phone, and later someone who referred to themselves as the manager. I could not work out a deal with them to wait 15 minutes for me to come and buy some sausage and pick it up. I could not even convince them to let me pay for the sausage and a bag of ice over the phone, they leave it outside the front door, And I’ll take my chances in picking it up!
I was not asking for anyone to wait around, but surely waiting 15 minutes? What kind of hardship would that have been. I only response was “no sir, at 7 PM we’re pretty much out the door.”
I was only buying about $50 worth of sausage; I would’ve been perfectly willing to take my chances to have someone put it in a bag outside the door with a bag of ice over it. If somebody took it? Fine!
Unfortunately, no one was willing to help me, so I had to mosey on the Texas without the sausage. Super Bowl party went on as planned.
Today, I’m heading back to Georgia, on I 10. I do not think I will be making a...
