This was my first experience at Chomipes & drove 20 minutes to the Cactus/32nd street location in Phoenix as I was looking for an Asian chicken salad. Cistomer Service experience was one of the worst I have ever had.
Restaurant was not overly busy, just two people in line ahead of me. While waiting in line, the gentleman taking our orders kept coughing. When it was my turn, he did not greet me and he appeared very rushed. I ordered the salad and while putting my credit card in the payment slot, he moved to the other register to help another customer. He never thanked me or said anything else and I never saw him again.
Then a younger woman with dark hair was behind the counter. She started coughing.... A LOT!! Holy smokes I thought.... Now two coughing food workers? š± I am not a germaphobe but at this point the coughing was getting concerning. She was facing the large display of uncovered bagels while coughing. A few times I saw her put her arm up to cough into it but not once did she step away from the counter or wash her hands. For the first 5 or10 minutes there was another gentleman waiting for his order and I could tell every time she would cough he would look up and he too seemed concerned.
The caughing continued for close to 20 minutes. They finally called my name for the order. I quietly/ politely told the blonde woman who handed me my order that there were two employees coughing a lot. Instead of thanking me for my feedback she seemed defensive and told me nobody was sick and they were coughing because they had a dry throat. I said then they should step away from the food/cash register to grab something to drink or wash their hands. She continued to take a defensive posture instead of taking in the health/ safety feedback. She finally stated she would talk to them.
I took my order, got to my car car and looked in my bag and discovered I did not receive the Parmesan breadstick that comes with the salad. I went back into the restaurant and spoke to the same blonde women and advised I didn't get the breadstick. She told me those only come with dine in orders. What!? I told her the menu states salads come with a breadstick & nowhere does it state they only come with dine in orders. She still refused to give me a breadstick. Come on chompies! Either take this verbage off of your menu or put a breadstick in the to-go orders. I said I have been sitting here for 20 minutes listening to employees coughing, you weren't concerned when I advised you about it and now I'm looking for my breadstick and you still refuse to give me one? She doubled down & refused to give me a darn breadstick. Now it's no longer about the stupid piece of bread. I'm beyond shocked at this entire customer service experience. I regret driving 20 minutes for this particular restaurant. I regret tipping on the to-go order. I am shocked at an employee not recognizing the easiest thing to do is to give a customer a stupid breadstick. Finally, the dark-haired lady who had been coughing for 20 minutes says I'll give you a breadstick.... It's not that big of a deal. I said EXACTLY! But then I thought.... God only knows what she's doing to the bread stick as she's probably dropping it on the floor or coughing on it to punish me for complaining about the coughing and the breadstick. Since I've never eaten here, I don't know what they are normally like but the one I was given was very hard.
The salad was good so I gave it five stars but it was not good enough to order again with this type of customer service. I will never establish this chompies again. Maybe I will try another one in the future but not sure...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to Chompie's 3 times. Each time, I've ordered the Sweet and Sour Cabbage rolls with a potato pancake. I love them! The first time, the food was delicious, but the cabbage rolls had barely any meat in them and were way over covered with loads of cabbage and a bit of red sauce. The potato pancake, just one, was large and had an odd taste to it. I could not taste potato at all and had no idea what the filler was, flour, perhaps? The 2nd time was the same. I was disappointed again with the sweet and sour cabbage and potato pancake, and because we are not in the area frequently, it is a little out of our way to drive to Chompie's, this was very disappointing for us . Now, the 3rd time was not a charm. I ordered the sweet and sour cabbage rolls. They arrived drowning in cabbage and sauce. Once again, I find myself digging through loads of cabbage to fmd the hamburger meat. My gosh. If there were 2 flat tablespoons of meat on one of the two cabbage rolls, then I would be lucky. Literally barely any meat at all, and very mushy meat at that. The cabbage sause was see-through and very clear like water and cold! The mashed potatoes were a small scoop, i mean so small, they seemed out of proportion with the cabbage rolls and very cold!I couldn't order the potato pancake again. I remembered the awful taste from my previos visit, and then what that taste is. It's old, expired oil and they must have a lot to use. If not, they should consider changing their brand as it really doesn't taste good. They fry a lo! In it, because even my boyfriend's meal had that awful taste (his french fries). I sent the cold plate back, and the waiter was very accommodating. He brought a new plate of food back to us, and everything on it was hot! Even the sauce was thicker and red! Not clear like water!. The cabbage rolls still did not have enough meat in them. Such a disappointment, as it is the main meal. The saving grace for me was at each of the 3 visits, I ordered a bowl of cabbage soup with a side of sour cream. So delicious mixed in. I won't be ordering the sweet and sour cabbage rolls again. I've learned my lesson. Three strikes, and you're out. I was raised on cabbage rolls from a German mother, and I know how they are made, and it is not with squishy, grey, minuscule,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Chompie's, excited by the prospect of enjoying their well-regarded menu. Unfortunately, the dining experience was overshadowed by a series of service mishaps and unwelcoming interactions. Initially, the order we received was incorrect, which can happen, but it's the handling of such situations that truly reflects a restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction. Regrettably, in this case, the response was far from satisfactory.
Upon notifying the server of the mistake, it took three explanations before the message was understood. However, the understanding did not lead to a courteous resolution; instead, it escalated into an argumentative and confrontational exchange. The server insisted we had not ordered what we clearly had, demonstrating a lack of respect and listening that one does not expect in a service-oriented establishment.
When the missed items were finally brought to our table, the server's disregard for personal space and manners was startling. Reaching across my face to retrieve the incorrect items from my plate without permission was not only rude but also showed a significant lack of professional etiquette.
Hoping for some form of resolution or at least an understanding ear, we escalated our complaint to the shift leader. Unfortunately, this only deepened our disappointment. The shift leader's demeanor mirrored the server's, suggesting that the attitude we encountered might be a broader issue within this location's culture. The justification of the server's behavior and the lack of accountability were disheartening.
While the food at Chompie's lived up to its reputation, the service we experienced was utterly abysmal. A dining experience is a combination of both the meal and the service, and unfortunately, the latter severely tainted our visit. Despite the delicious offerings, the lack of professionalism and courtesy means we will not be returning to this location. It's a reminder that great food cannot compensate for poor service, and respect for customers...
