The place is very clean. Staff was friendly. The atmosphere is oddly lacking any character. Plain white painted walls with a few cool wall lamps on one side. A clearly visible, sloppily hung POS system and printer hanging on the other wall. I would recommend sitting outside, weather permitting.
Never having been here, we tried a few things. I tried the asparagus bowl which sounded good but turned out to actually be a quinoa bowl with a bit of bacon and asparagus. Not bad, but not at all what I was expecting.
I got a piece of French Toast for my side. It came out as a super thick(literally 1" thick) slice of toast with very little "French" on the outside of it and thick, dry bread inside. I also got a side biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was quite hard and dry all the way to the middle. It crumbled a bit when I cut into it and made an audible thump when I tapped it. The gravy, itself, was a bit thin.
My wife decided to try the corned beef hash, as she typically does, and was unimpressed with her meal as well. It contained a minimal amount of very small bits of corned beef in the mix and it just didn't taste like one would hope or expect.
Overall, we were both very disappointed in this experience. Definitely do not...
Read moreThis is hands down the best place I ate during my week long trip in the Phoenix area. The portions were large and everything tasted great.
I had the stuffed Brioche French toast which were large and fluffy. I was amazed at the full size of all 4 pieces. I decided to try the sweet potato mash and it was the highlight of my meal. The good size portion along with the glass square dish it was served in and the amount of fruit included in it made it the star of the meal. I could definitely see it as a dessert if it was slightly tweaked. It was very refreshing as a cold dish on a nice sunny October morning outside on the patio.
The only critique would be for the chorizo grits. It had a great portion size they were cooked perfectly and weren't watery or clumpy, however it under delivered as the grits seemed to neutralize the flavor and normal spiciness of the chorizo. So pepper or salt were needed to give it back some love and it definitely needed butter. I live in Georgia and I know grits need salt, pepper and butter and if you want to really do it up you add cream cheese for a creamy goodness.
Overall I expect to be back in a few months and will be there for breakfast to try more of the menu and get the sweet...
Read moreThis is a difficult review for me as its a 50/50 situation.
Lets start an upbeat item, the food .... Wonderful from the first bite to the last! The management says they use only, all natural, locally sourced food and ingredients. If you like the idea of "locally sourced" and all natural, this is the spot for you! The staff is awesome as well. Friendly and attentive without being disruptive. That works for me.
So lets take a peek at the not so good things ......
They keep the doors open (after all, this fall weather is awesome) which is nice, but we had several flies swarming around our plates and that makes me crazy!
We like to cuddle up to the bar but this bar seats about 6 people so forget about going here for happy hour. Lastly, the bar chairs that even I couldn't get seated and by the way, I'm 6'-1" tall. The bar chairs are not only to tall but without exception, they are the most uncomfortable bar stools I've ever sat in.
So don't cross this place off your list because the food makes it worth it but I will say their other locations are...
