My family and I had been to Grimaldiās many times before. This was my first visit to this location and my wifeās first crack at Grimaldiās ever.
We placed our order for carry out at about 4:50 pm today. We were told 30-45 minutes. My wife thought that a long time but they were understaffed and it takes time for quality pizzaā¦Or so I thought.
We opted to get seated for a couple sodas and maybe some dessert while we waited giving our inner kids a thrill. The desserts were wonderful and our server was amazing.
My wife was pissed, I was annoyed and our server was embarrassed that our pizzas werenāt ready until two hours and 15 minutes later. Just a hair beyond 45 minute right?
Of our three pizzas two were charred. Not well done but burnt in many spots. We were told that Grimaldiās pizza were dark due to the coal fire method of cooking. Dark pizza is one thing. Burnt is another.
The manager came over and apologized repeating the dark pizza excuse. We again pointed out that burnt was beyond dark and not acceptable.
The manager had the decency to credit us for the pizza and remade the two problem pizzas within 20 minutes. We took the food back to my momās apartment to eat and hang out.
My pizza was decent if a little lackluster. My mom and wife were, likewise, not thrilled with their pizzas. Considering the bill for the pizza itself was over $80 weāre severely disappointed.
Because of the experience I cannot offer more than two stars. The second star is due to the comfortable ambiance good service from the waitress, good dessert and compensation. The long (almost three hour) wait , charred pizza, the lame final product and the all around poor experience cannot justify more than two stars however.
Despite the attempts to make up for the situation the three of us arenāt expecting ever to come back to this location or to Grimaldiās ever again. Sad really but the restaurant is unlikely to ever convince us...

Scottsdale Quarters is always stoking the flames every time we've stopped in around lunch, so we just stopped going there. Surprised They are still open. People want pizza at lunch
The old town location has horrible service every time we've been there. Crowded or not. This last time, we got up and left after 15 min of no acknowledgment. 2 waiters saw us but kept passing by with not even we'll be right with you, so we left. All the other times wasn't as bad, still slow service but the consistent flaw was not being asked if you need a drink refills or how about do like other good restaurants and notice that drinks are low and just bring them. Esp check in on people a couple times too see if they need anything would be great.
So the location at DC Ranch has it down. Excellent service every time. Never have to wait long to put in your order, get checked on several times, etc. The pizza is normally done to perfection with the right amt of sauce, cheese, toppings, etc. And a little bit of crisp. To be fair, the old town location had good pizza, just unfortunately, it doesn't have high standards for service.
Only gave 4 stars because every now and then the pizza isn't perfect, but still good. Great job to whoever runs this location. Makes a world...

Staff: I walked in and said hello to the employee when I entered, and she didnāt even look at me. She then clocked out in front of me, called to an associate and pointed at me, then walked out. I have worked food service before and I was never that rude to any customer. It was off-putting.
Poor food quality: pizza was not very warm upon pickup. It was obvious it had been made ahead and sitting for awhile. We live right down the street and by the time we got home, our pizzas were cold to the touch.
The sausage calzone we ordered had a very small amount of sausage and copious amounts of cheese. It was like cheese bread, I have never had a calzone like that! It was not very pleasant due to overwhelming amounts of cheese. It sickened my spouse, who I doubt will be eating anything calzone for the next couple of years. Plus, the calzone came with only one small container of marinara, so we couldnāt even offset the huge amount of cheese with sauce because they hardly provided any.
Overall, we were extremely disappointed and will never be eating here again. It was definitely not worth $40 for two low...
