Jalapeño Inferno Takeout and Cantina — Restaurant in Scottsdale

I have been going to this restaurant for a number of years and it was always my "favorite" here in the valley. Today was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We had a waitress who really seemed to have no idea what she as doing, had no listening skills, was very unattentive and actually quite rude and unprofessional. (Young with dark hair - RUN FOREST RUN!) First she got my son's order wrong, then didn't listen to our 2 Hippie Chips order with an extra dip and brought three complete order of the chips, brought me a wine to "taste" which was really barely even a taste as it hardly covered the bottom of the glass. Didn't care for this wine and asked to try a different one. This tasting was more reasonable in quantity, however because they had changed the wine list I really didn't care for it. When I asked for tasting #3 the waitress decided she needed to bring the manager over because I had asked for a different tasting. I found this extremely offensive as if I didn't know anything about wine:( Last time I checked this is a "wine bar/restaurant", in my opinion these requests were not out of the ordinary. I felt the waitress seemed "put out" by the fact that I was requesting tastings and she continued to "pressure me" to purchase a full glass without the tasting I had requested. The manager then brought me the tasting #3 I requested in addition to one other one I hadn't requested. When the waitress came back I asked her for full glass of the one I had requested. When I did she proceeded to put her hands inside both of the tasting glasses in front of me that I was not done with and then spilled them all over me and my other son. At that point I got up and asked for another waitress! When the bill for the four of us came to my surprise they hadn't comped so much as a glass of wine, appetizer or desert for all of the inconvenience, unprofessionalism, incorrect orders or spilling the wine on two of us.. Quite honestly it was very shocking to say the least. This has been my "favorite" restaurant for many years, but after tonight's experience I highly doubt I will ever go back:( VERY DISAPPOINTING and would no longer recommend this place. Went here for a kind of celebration on a mid afternoon weekday. Very clean and nice restaurant. The manager on duty and the servers were very friendly and accomodating. We tried a bunch of food items, cheese plates, panini's, a couple of salads, pizza and some desserts. Everyone agreed the food was tasty, a little high priced but again, it was good. Several of us had draft beers and they were only $4.50 per glass, not bad at all.

The wine, though - wow. On the one hand, I get it, I truly do. Keeping a nice place open is expensive and there are a lot of costs involved - but just ...wow. Nine ounce serving of "The Prisoner Red Blend," $25. Assuming you can get six glasses out of a 750 ml bottle they are getting $150 from that bottle and I can buy that very same bottle at Total Wine for $35.99. One celebratory bottle of Veuve Clicquot Brut, $128; again, at Total Wine this is $44.97. I GET IT - I didn't go to Total Wine, I went to a nice restaurant and they served us, and running a restaurant is expensive - but on the other hand there is reasonable and there is unreasonable markup. ...

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants until last night. We ordered off the happy hour menu & salads at 5:40, by 6:18 our food still hasn't arrived. Our server was rarely to be seen & her explanation for the delay was that they were busy in the kitchen. They weren't busy when we got there and ordered, it got busy after that. When our food arrived it was cold and lettuce was wilted. I never did get a refill on my drink and getting our checks & having them picked up was another ordeal (even though we had told them we needed to be somewhere at 7:00) That in itself up until now had just resulted in a bad tip for our server. What has prompted this scathing review is the food poisoning that came at 9:30 pm.!!! There is just no excuse for what used to be a fine restaurant to fall so low! I blame the management in their inability to train their servers & cooks properly. To serve spoiled food to your guests who actually pay money for it is inexcusable. My next action will be contacting the state to have the place inspected. Warning, do not eat at this...
