I went here on valentines day and I was not aware that they were only serving a set menu and the valentines day special before I set the reservation. I had a reservation at 7:45 pm and they made us wait 30 minutes to be seated and once we were seated no server greeted or helped us. When we were given the menu we realized that this restaurant was only serving the valentines day special, which was a four course meal with no substitutions or modifications. We had tried to flag down several servers but no one helped us or stopped by until someone confirmed that this was a set menu. We had no problem ordering the valentines day special but this man had informed us that there were 2 options, one being the 4 course meal and the other being ordering from the set menu. The man walked away and never helped us after handing us the other menu option. We had sat there for 20 minutes before a server had even come up to us. I wasn't even made aware that he was our server because he didn't introduce himself or greet us. He had only asked us about drinks and was very rude and not helpful at all. It seemed like he was judging us for our age and making the assumption that we had no money to be eating here. It took him another 20 minutes to bring out our drinks and didn't think to ask us if we were ready to order. I then watched him speak to every other person except for us. He made us feel absolutely terrible and we even witnessed his rude actions towards the table directly beside us. In this situation a server dropped several wine glasses and then our server had said "are you guys done here? Okay then move over there", not even apologizing or sounding sincere to this couple. His solution was kicking them out to the side and he didn't even check in with them after that. After waiting a whole hour without being helped and watching our server help and bring out food to people who were seated after us, we decided to get the bill and eat somewhere else. I had to flag down another waiter because our server was no where to be found and I had politely asked him if we could just get the bill because I explained to him how we were waiting here for over an hour and was never helped by our server. He then tells his manager and he comes over to our table and did not seem apologetic at all. He then says to us "how can we make this better?" and when we explained the situation and he made it seem like we were the problem and he was doing us a favor by trying to get us to stay. I had told him we just wanted the bill because they already wasted over an hour of our time. Our server brought us the bill and did not seem apologetic or even aware of how he treated us. This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had and it truly was the worst guest experience I have had as well. I was celebrating a 4 year anniversary and I hate how it was spoiled due to biases and assumptions. If we are willing to spend that much money on a meal then I expect...
Read moreNow EIGHT MONTHS LATER no reply- used to go once a week, havent been for months. *** 5 months later- NO RESPONSE from the owner- only solidifies that she does not care like Fernando did
If I could use single words to describe how I feel they would be: sad let down (2 words) changed different
Spiga was our go to place- Whether we were returning from wine country up north or just wanted a great meal (we live in Mesa) we drove to eat there.
Then Fernando sold the restaurant. Almost immediately it changed. Regular staff was gone, food was different, the place felt different.
Even before we "knew" Fernando he was always visible, always there, always talking to people. Over time we built a "relationship" and he was always a part of the place. He would hug my wife, grab me and greet me, ask about our family, life, etc. He would stop by during our meal just to say hi etc. While we have met the new owner once, we haven't seen her at all in our subsequent visits. I don't even know her name.
Gone is Jamie, the hostess, who knew everyone, and would answer the phone by saying hello to us as if we were best friends. The hostess station now is a cold place, robotic, chaotic.
The food quality is different as well.
Mussels which were once huge, tasty, cooked to perfection, are now the cheap little black mussels, full of dirt and crunchy, many not even opened. The pot is filled with half of the sauce it used to have. Still the same price, though.
The pasta portions have decreased substantially.
Chicken is not cooked as well.
Place seems corporate now, like just moving people in and out.
Gone are the familiar servers and familiar faces.
Went to the bar to refill my wife's soda water (Server was nowhere to be found, and was charged $5! Of course, I paid, and tipped. LOL But why?
It just feels different. Maybe I am too emotional. Maybe I just like things to never change. Maybe I was too attached to Fernando and the "old ways" The place is, by no means, terrible or bad etc. It still is a top quality Italian place that blows away any chain place. It just isn't the Spiga we have loved for years prior.
Will we be back? Yes, and I am going to have an open heart and mind. We love food, love eating out, and want to fall in love with Spiga again. Yes, I am...
Read moreRestaurant has an incredible ambience and food is of high quality!! I’m not one to write reviews, and as a server myself, I come from a very judgmental free zone, however, everything except the service from our waiter was up to par. Our server was a grouch from the beginning, and took 20 minutes alone to even greet our table. This is fine dining and this is Scottsdale for crying out loud!! Already unacceptable. He did not seem to understand what an espresso martini was, so we had went up to the bar and settled it there instead without issue. When the server came back, he noticed we had an espresso martini and nearly punished us for going to the bar and grabbing our own and didn’t serve us drinks for the remainder of the night. I had ordered the Spaghetti Amore, and was served the rigatoni with vodka and when I brought this to the servers attention, he rudely disregarded my concern, took my plate, went to the back of the kitchen for some time, and came back 10 minutes later with some grilled chicken in the same pasta and said that he didn’t have them use the “spaghetti” noodles because they were dried out. Meanwhile, the entire plate was incorrect and it seemed like he was trying to convince me otherwise. Like man, the plate literally had bacon in it, you are not fooling anyone. Didn’t bother clarifying this mistake because I was already so over explaining myself to this incompetent server, and I was just hungry at this point. The check comes, and the server charged us wrongly for 3 drinks; 2 espresso martinis and a lemon drop martini that was never received, and when confronted about this he tried to cover up his own mistake yet again. I truly cannot believe he’s still an employee and the restaurant should be embarrassed to be paying this man hourly. Apparently fine dining is not considered that anymore. Server needs to realize that if he’s not cut out for the job, there’s plenty out there to...
