I walked into this restaurant expecting only good things, as my roommates, whom I went with, all raved about the food. As soon as I walked in, I could feel that something was off, but I decided to let it go. When we got to the counter to place our orders, the woman there seemed reluctant to make eye contact with me, but was perfectly happy to make friendly conversation with my roommates, who are all Caucasian. Again, I let it go. The body of the restaurant was, admittedly, a very pleasant environment, and very classically decorated. When it was time to pay for our orders, my roommates and I went to the front counter. I was first in line, yet the man who checked us out was quick to take my roommates card, who was next to me. I brushed it off, one last time. I attempted to hand him my card after her, but again, he reached past me and took my other roommate's card. Both of their cards were accepted on the first try. When he finally took my card for payment, it was "declined." The card I have is an American Visa, had more than enough money on it, was signed up for in-state, and has never, in all the years that I've had it, been declined. He was unable to provide a valid reason for why it was declined. He tried again, and, yet again, it was declined. When he ran it through a third time, as I was checking my bank statement, it had gone through. Looking at my bank statement, however, it had gone through the first two times as well. When I questioned him about why it hadn't gone through, he was unable to provide an answer other than "It happens sometimes." There was an air of arrogance in the way he spoke to me, as if it would be common that my card, out of all of us, would be declined, simply because I'm an African American woman. The food that I was given was good, and if customer experience is not something that you're worried about, then my complaint is not for you. If you are, however, a person of a darker complexion, I was disgusted with my experience. I will be taking my business elsewhere, as there are plenty of places that can cater to my needs without needless...
Read moreOrdered a pizza and garlic knots to go. Half margarita and grilled BBQ chicken First, service was immaculate- friendly on the phone, overly friendly in person, and overall great experience. Took the amount of time stated on the phone 35 minutes for food to be ready. 5/5 service The food itself is flavorful but has room for improvement. An order of garlic knots is a lot of knots! I was impressed, but unfortunately they weren't very crispy more on the dough side. They were fresh tasting and had plenty of garlic! Everything I love, but wish they weren't so doughy. Also, they contained a lot of oil, making them kind of greasy. Overall through 4/5 because I was able to take them home and air fry them up. So again great flavor, slight improvements The pizza itself, driving home I kept smelling the basil on the margarita pizza and how fresh it smelt! I couldn't wait to devour a slice. But to my surprise it was more styled like a cheese pie slice with fresh basil so I was pretty disappointed that it wasnt traditional style margarita with big slices of fresh mozzarella- this is my go to order from all pizzerias. I also ordered half grilled BBQ chicken which is veryyyy flavorful and has tons of sauce and a good amount of chicken on it. The crust is delicious not too doughy and not too thin. Again giving the pizza a 4/5 I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will support them myself for the fact of flavor and using fresh ingredients but I'll know I'll have to take the order home and "crisp" it up which in my books is fine by me as long as I have that option. I could tell 100% that everything used was fresh ingredients and I absolutely love that. The restaurant has their own unique differences and I'd rate it in my top 5 choices for pizza...
Read moreAfter Kit Dwight and I wandered about Steamtown, National Park Service Historic Site for 2+ hours we visited our First Pizza Joint of the Lackawanna County Pizza Trail.
After perusing the menu and getting some recommendations from one of the owner's, Darrel...
We decided to try one of their Gourmet Pizzas, the "Italian Stallion".
It's made with fresh dough, crushed tomato sauce, topped with pepperoni, sausage, prosciutto, sopppressata, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil added after baking.
The pizza was huge, the crust was crispy with it's fair share of fluffy outer ring, thin with considerable flop for the first inch or so of the center tips...
Knife and fork was necessary to eat that portion and the rest could be folded for eating the rest of the slice.
All ingredients were top shelf, the toppings were delicious and all of it melded well to make it a pleasure to eat.
The right amount of spiciness from the sauce, buttery with good texture of the melted cheese and the seasoning was well balanced.
There's 60+ location's listed in the Pizza Trail Passport Book that receives a ink stamp from each of the restaurants upon your visit and your purchase.
The vernacular or lingo differs for what you call the pie or slice.
They call a Pizza Pie a "Tray" A Slice is called a "Cut" Tray of Red is a "Plain Pizza with Red Sauce" Tray of White is a "Specialty Pizza with Cheese Only"
Now the Red or White can have a second Crust on top and it is usually seasoned with Olive Oil and herbs like Rosemary... That's how I have it in "Old Forge, Pennsylvania" which is called the "Pizza Capital of the World"!!!
I would recommend anyone if not everyone take a trip out into Pennsylvania to give their regional Pizza...
