Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab — Local services in Scranton

I came to Elan Skilled Nursing Home to work as a CNA because they were very short-staffed, and I truly wanted to help. What I witnessed during my time there was heartbreaking. Many residents were in poor condition due to neglect — aides regularly refused to give showers or provide proper hygiene care.

During my shifts, I made sure every resident received the care and attention they deserved. Several of them thanked me repeatedly, saying it was the best care they had received in a long time. Within just a few days, residents looked cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable — which shows how much consistent, compassionate care matters.

Unfortunately, my experience ended poorly. On my last day, I was bullied by another staff member and reported it directly to the Director of Nursing, Gina McCabe. Instead of addressing the issue or protecting me from a hostile work environment, she chose to remove me from the facility (DNR). It’s sad that speaking up for myself and for the residents resulted in retaliation rather than resolution.

First, 7 of these worded reviews are from employees. My relative was here for a year on the skilled nursing floor. There were a few very good nurses indeed. However, overall, management is an utter disgrace. I had to call there approx 5 x's a week with one problem or another. This was extremely frustrating and took up a lot of my time. Good luck getting a straight answer or 2 of the same answers from 2 different employees. Having had to pay over $11k a month was such a waste of money. On one occasion I needed to speak to someone, anyone, in the back office of the 1st floor. Waited an hour. Apparently, the mgmt team , HR, etc. all take their lunch at the same time. Another unheard of way to run a business. Not even going to get started on a pair of prescription glasses that went "missing". Took almost 9 months, I repeat, 9 months to get a replacement. I recently had the opportunity to visit a friend at Elan Skilled Nursing, and I was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The facility is exceptionally clean and well-maintained, which immediately put my mind at ease.

The staff members were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive, making sure that all residents receive the care they need. It’s clear that they genuinely care about the well-being of their residents.

Additionally, I was amazed by the great resources they provide to the community. It’s wonderful to see a facility that is so dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and their families.
