Unfortunately I had the worst experience here do to me and my friend being POC. I’ve been going to the one in Freehold, NJ for about 4 yrs and have rewards points with them. I’ve been so distraught over the interaction as i am a regular and ALWAYS TIP WELL DUE TO THE SERVICE ALWAYS BEING OUTSTANDING.At least i thought it would be at Sea Bright, Nj location. My friend and I decided to go out for a quick bite.We ordered drinks and I believe three appetizers to share. The servesenergy was horrible and we did not feel welcomed at all.Which was very gorgeous.4 hours before closing so i just figured she’d be a little more upbeat.I work in the restaurant industry and i just live by making sure there’s a smile on my face..SO I CAN MAKE TIPS.The issue was she constantly came back to the table to rush us out of nowhere and as if she had so much to do? but her section was very empty.. just like the restaurant.no smile.horrible. just rushing us.My friend has anxiety and took a little long to order bc of her energy and attitude. We saw her and the assistant mangerwatching over our table as well. she only got more nasty with her attitude and we were only there for maybe 1hr 1/2.We finish our meal and before we can ask the check was literally slammed on our table. We laugh it off bc they obviously pull out of a jar. if ykyk. My friends social anxiety started to make him feel down and i told him let’s take pictures!.the place is STUNNING!.He signs the check and doesn’t even realize he didn’t tip. She proceeds to come back to the table seconds after and says “you didn’t tip. Here you go!” rolls her eyes AND SLAMS THE CHECK AGAIN AND STORMS OFF. Worst part is my friend was calling her name saying he was so sorry and said “wait wait how much would you like wait i’m sorry!”.we both felt bad for split second and then realized her attitude was like that from the start because she was definitely treating us like we “a waste of time” we were so heartbroken over the service. We decide that unfortunately but to respect ourselves that we wouldn’t leave her a dime.I mean who would?Just heartbreaking.I cheer up my friend&We sit at the round booth. We were taking pics for maybe 10 mins when we saw support staff looking directly at us and laughing. Then one more came. my friend&I just look at them like “ok”. Our server comes to the table after we saw and heard the staff laughing and talking about us. She leans into us, throws the menu on the table once again and says “so why would you think it’s ok to sit here and take pictures when you HAVE to tip me. I laugh at this point because there is no way this is real.We know why she treated us like that and that.ew. She said “even a dollar, penny, anything”. I proceeded to tell her I understand but the service was HORRIBLE. She proceeded to put her hands up near my face level and “shhh” with a hand out.. ONLY LET MY MALE FRIEND TALK. just continued to disrespect us. We saw the staff at the corner as if they were going to hurt us. she had one of them come up first as well. couldn’t admit she was wrong nor change her attitude she then said “ this section is close and you have to go rn” They closed in 4 hours and there was OTHER tables in that section. Obviously everyone here was unhinged. besides the host and kitchen staff. I saw she ran up to her manger after she knew i was right and i told her this is unprofessional.I spoke to the assistant manger who proceeded to NOT LET ME TALK AND KEPT COMPLETELY INGORE ME BUT LET MY MALE FRIEND SPEAK. Wouldn’t give me the time of day as if i was an unhinged black women? when i was being more than calm given the circumstances. it was HORRIBLE.He told me “ITS ILLEGAL TO NOT TIP AND HE CAN CALL THE COPS” THEN SAID “YOU PEOPLE ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE AND SHOULD FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO EAT AND DONT COME BACK”. I called him out in front of the staff and told him he’s so unprofessional and immature. I told him everyone harassing us “IS ILLEGAL” . HE SLAMMED HIS HAND ON THE HOST STAND AND SAID “HE DOESN'T CARE WHAT HAPPENED HE STANDS BY HIS STAFF”...
Read moreI brought my family to Tommy's and it was every bit as awesome as I hoped it would be.
First, as busy as they were, we were seated right away. Walking in, you can't help but notice how beautiful the place is. String lights hang from the ceiling, the bar in front is large with huge TVs all around it. The place was very busy, yet the staff handled it with a well oiled machine-like efficiency. Our server was awesome (Eric) and the food was top notch. We ordered the Super Yellowtail Roll and the Jersey Clam Pie.
The sushi was incredible, and super fresh. We loved every bite - we only wished there was more. We will definitely try more sushi next time we come here (and we WILL come back). The Clam pizza was absolutely delicious. The crust was thin, light and crispy, and the spicy Italian sausage had the perfect spicy kick. The green onions brought out a nice depth of flavor that went well with the ingredients. The only thing I would change/upgrade about the Clam pizza is - the clams themselves were so small - I wish there were larger pieces of clams as the sausage seemed to take center stage as far as the flavors went. Not complaining though - the pizza was excellent - I just feel it would have been PERFECT if it had more clam flavor.
Besides the beautiful interior, there's also an amazing outdoor patio on the river, and it's perfect for groups and families with kids. They have beanbag Cornhole games set up so plenty of kids were having a blast playing while their parents enjoyed a few drinks. Everyone was having a nice, chill time there and I feel like the patio area must be awesome when the weather is slightly cooler in the early fall (it was 82 degrees when we were there - though it cooled to the mid to high 70s by the time we stepped out onto the patio).
I honestly can't recommend Tommy's Tavern + Tap highly enough. Based on our experience here, I really have to question any reviews lower than 5 stars. If I could, I'd give them a 10. This has become one of our favorite places by the shore and I can't...
Read moreNice location, vibe and ok service. We valet parked on the right side of the restaurant. There is ample parking all around this area. We loved what we ordered last time we were here but food we ordered this time was not so good. We called ahead but they do not accept reservations. Don’t mind waiting if food was good but it wasn’t. We arrived at 6:15 and checked in. The wait was an hour. While we waited our party of 5 ordered drinks from the bar and sat in the front by the entrance. At 7:15 we were seated out back. Nice ambiance with lights and tables/ lounge chairs. We ordered appetizers: the house salad, not enough dressing and chickpeas were missing, the cheese curds were good, and the calamari/shrimp was tasty but there wasn’t enough shrimp. The jalapeño pineapple margarita was very good, recommend this! For dinner my husband and I shared the Jersey Shore Clam pie and it was not anything we expected. The clams were not fresh but from a can (very fishy) and there wasn’t much sausage on it. The pizza crust was the best part of the pizza. Do not get this, stick with your basic cheese, sausage, pepperoni pizzas. We also ordered the Tommy’s Roll-yellowtail, avocado, cucumber, topped with jalapeño, salmon, pepper tuna & cilantro for $17. I love sushi and this was not good sushi. First, too much rice. The yellowtail was non existent and I couldn’t even taste the pepper on the tuna. The jalapeño should have been fresh but they put pickled jalapeño on top. They were also missing the cilantro. For dessert, we had coffee and the bread pudding (not good) it was very dry with not the flavors listed on menu but we loved the ice cream. We recommend the blondie. It was warm and perfect with the ice cream and whip cream. I would go back for the regular pizza - plain, or with sausage or with pepperoni, or veggies. I normally take lots of photos but...
