We live in the neighborhood and used to love Frank's but the past couple of times we've gone they've really missed the mark. Last time, the hostess argued with us about our reservation, and this time we had several issues with both the food and the service.
We went for a birthday dinner last night and the service started out great but seemed to drop off throughout the night. The food and drinks both took extremely long to come out and when the food finally came our orders were wrong. I noticed the server didn't write anything down and had to come back to ask me again what kind of wine I had ordered so I think that was part of it. My boyfriend ordered the cheeseburger medium-well, but it came out very rare. I ordered the steak and asked to substitute the fries for a salad which the server said would be no problem, but when the food came out it was steak and fries. I sent that back and reminded them I had ordered it with a salad, and when it came out again they brought it with the wedge salad instead of the cara-cara salad I had ordered. I just ate it at that point so as not to keep the rest of my group waiting but that wedge salad they gave me was tiny (smaller than the size of my fist) and the steak was not good. For a $35 plate I would expect a lot more than a small "just ok" steak and a tiny salad. The wedge salad was just lettuce with 2 chunks of bacon and 2 radish slices...I'm not sure what the hype is all about on that salad but the green goddess dressing was good. I don't like bacon or radishes (why I didn't order this salad in the first place) so I ended up just eating the lettuce with dressing.
Our drink glasses and water glasses were left empty for a good while during our dinner and when we ordered some post-dinner coffees we weren't asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu which I thought was kind of odd. We probably would have ordered some since it was a birthday dinner.
Overall, I still like Frank's for the vibe and ambiance, but the food and service has seriously declined, especially...
Read moreTried Franks for the first time in a Saturday, and the experience was exceptional.
To start, the dining room and champagne parlor are a whole mood. Reclaimed wood glows as the sun sets creating a warm, inviting atmosphere in a 100 year old building. Tall ceilings give the smaller spaces a roomy feeling, while maintaining a good amount of intimacy.
Our party of three went to TRY the restaurant, and we put it through it's paces, and it exceeded every expectation.
The food was wonderfully and lovingly prepared (we had the Olympia oysters, oyster sliders, Mac n cheese, manila clams, mini lobster rolls, and deviled eggs to start). The oysters were fresh and briny, paired perfectly with a 375 ml champagne. The real stand out app (other then the oysters) were the devilled eggs. Just... Go try them.
For mains, we split the fried chicken and the burger. There isn't a better fried chicken out there. Crisp, but not too crunchy. Wonderfully seasoned and flavored and so juicy, with a great gravy. Though I was stuffed, I devoured the burger. The pickled onions and white cheddar were a great reimagining. No wonder this is one of the best burgers in Seattle, and maybe the state.
The service was attentive but not overbearing, and the staff was friendly at every turn. The bartender is a real craftsman.
If you're in U Village/Ravenna, it is worth the 2 minute drive to Franks to experience delicious food, lovingly prepared and reasonably priced. Parking can be a challenge being a residential neighborhood, but it's...
Read moreI have been eyeing this restaurant since I moved into the neighborhood a little over a year ago, and finally had the chance to eat here for my birthday. Everything was as good or better than I anticipated. We had the deviled eggs, mini lobster rolls, fried chicken and waffles, macaroni and cheese, and banana split. The deviled aggs were good, the lobster rolls would have been easier to eat if the lobster could be more stuffed inside the roll but were so tasty I wouldn't mind liking what dropped out of the roll off the plate, the fried chicken is heaven, the waffles were perfectly done and the fois gras butter and bourbon maple syrup with amazing, the macaroni and cheese was delicious, and the banana split was better than I could have ever imagined with the amarena cherry whip, bruleed bananas, and chocolate and caramel.... service was prompt, friendly, and they did not rush us through our meal or out the door when we finish eating. It was a delightful experience, and I hope to...
