Amazing wonderful place. The food was complex, rich and deeply satisfying. The owner is a wonderful warm, gracious woman who treats you like a guest. This was our first experience with Eritrean and Ethiopian food. We researched the menu and explored basic Ethiopian cusine BEFORE going so were prepared for the experience. I recommend doing this before going if you do not know what to expect. Injera often is described as a 'sourdough flatbread' but it is not a bread in the standard sense. Rather it is a spongy, sour thin material unappetizing by itself. However, eatten properly, it is a remarkable culinary experience. Your food, densely spiced, is served on top of the injera that you tear off and eat with your fingers. WOW. Unbelievably good. So good. We had the Habesha’s Special—Meat and Veggie Combo 27 (Good for 2 people) Habesha’s super special knockout combo! Key Wot, Alicha Wot, Doro Wot, Lentils, Gomen, Salad, and Iyb. Amazing food. Beef, chicken, lamb, variety of lentils, spinach, cabbage that melts in your mouth, beets that even I liked. We made a mess and had a wonderful experience. AND, the coffee is world-class. It is served as expresso or some variation, and the beans, roasted that day, are ground when they prepare your coffee. Then, for us, orange cake for dessert. Unique and delicious. A wonderful experience that left us so...
Read moreI have only incredible words for Amy's Merkato. The owner Yodeet is an incredible woman, always over the top hospitable during each of my visits!
I had eaten here a few times pre-COVID for the amazing injera options, but just went back for you first time this weekend (Aug 2021) for a dine in experience. There are 2 tables outside and nicely spaced seating inside right by the door (which remained open for air flow the whole time). My friend and I ordered the deluxe/ultimate veggie option and it was the perfect amount for us if not a little bit too much. We also ordered a slice of the orange cake and it was perfectly fluffy and a good amount of sweet. In the past, I've done a veggie injera and a lamb ribs injera for 4-5 people - it's the best of both worlds!!
Since my friend and I stayed for a few hours to chat and eat, Yodeet came over at the end to offer us a refill for our lattes!!! So nice! We declined because we were already so happy and full, and in return she gave us some baklava to take home. If you've never tried injera before, 1. You're missing out, 2. Amy's Merkato is a GREAT place to ease into your first experience! I promise you'll be back...
Read moreThese reviews HAVE to be fake! They are AMY’S MERKATO on Door Dash, so beware and avoid! This was hands down, the Worst Ethiopian food EVER! And I’ve eaten a lot of Ethiopian food. First of all, they called me to tell me, they didn’t have any boiled eggs. What if I ordered Doro Wat? It traditionally comes with a boiled egg. So I believe they were lazy and didn’t want to spend the time to boil any. They didn’t bother to tell me they didn’t have the Gomen, I PAID extra for. And instead, they proceeded to give me the SMALLEST portion of chickpeas. I didn’t agree to that substitution, why not call me about that too? Ayib was smelly and bitter. Overall, there was barely any food given. And what was given, was the TINIEST portions ever. The food tasted old, stale, BURNT and bitter. Didn’t even taste like beef. Barely any sauce. And it was COLD! Normally, even if the restaurant is an hour away, my food arrives piping hot because it is surrounded by injera. This was definitely not worth $50 dollars. If I had a dog or a raccoon, I wouldn’t even feed...
