After a long hike, we were craving some hearty Indian food, and Maharaj Indian Restaurant happened to be on our way home. Located in downtown Issaquah, the spot definitely benefits from its charming surroundings. We opted for the Vegetarian Dinner for Two and added a Paneer Tikka to start. The set meal included an appetizer, three curries, rice, bread, and a dessert (or a garlic naan upgrade). The pakoras were hands down the best I’ve had in the U.S.—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. As for the curries, we chose Dal Makhani, Malai Kofta, and a mixed vegetable curry—each dish was well-spiced, served piping hot, and truly hit the spot. The portions were generous, easily enough for 3-4 people, so we packed most of it to go. The bill, including tips, came to $90, which felt reasonable given the portion size and quality. The ingredients tasted fresh, and I’d definitely return on a cozy day. A heads-up on parking—it can be tricky, so expect a short walk. The ambiance is simple but well-kept, and the staff was quick and responsive. Definitely worth a try!

Let me tell you, folks, my recent lunch experience here was about as thrilling as watching paint dry. Despite the restaurant being sparsely ovcupied, the staff refused to seat me at a prime table because apparently, they were reserved for a ghostly party of four. Service was so sluggish, I almost considered filing a missing person's report for our waiter. To add insult to injury, the samosas were as thick and chewy as a hockey puck, and definitely not worth the $7.50. Feeling hopeful, I ordered the chicken Karahi and chicken Rogan Josh, praying for a flavor explosion. Sadly, they were as bland as a cardboard sandwich. Generous portions, though, so I guess quantity over quality was their motto. When finished it took them 20 minutes to notice that. On the bright side, the decor was charming, and the background music was on point, creating a much-needed distraction from the subpar food. Overall, I'd begrudgingly give this experience a generous 3 stars, mostly for the ambiance and perhaps a bit of pity. Not a place I can recommend, unfortunately.

I had such a wonderful experience at Maharaja Cuisine of India! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a balance of comfort and cultural charm. The staff was attentive and friendly, making sure we felt welcome throughout the meal. The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was full of rich flavor and perfectly spiced. The chicken tikka masala was creamy and satisfying, while the butter chicken had the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. Their vegetarian dishes like saag paneer and aloo gobi were equally impressive, showing great care and authenticity. Of course, the fresh garlic naan was the perfect complement to everything—we couldn’t stop ordering more! Portions were generous, and the quality was consistent across every dish we tried. Whether dining in or ordering takeout, the experience feels reliable and worthwhile. Overall, Maharaja Cuisine of India is a fantastic spot for anyone craving authentic Indian food—whether you’re a longtime fan or trying it for the first time. Highly recommended!

I spend $40+ delivery and I was looking forward to my meal. I order the butter chicken meal which comes with rice, naan and a drink (I got mango lassi) and samosas. The food wasn’t bad, it wasn’t excellent and it wasn’t inedible and it didn’t taste bad. It had the spice I requested for. The samosas were okay, maybe a little bland. What made me upset is that the portion for the butter chicken, I was shocked and upset, it was mostly butter chicken sauce in the container and only few SLICES of chicken (like fajita chicken slices) which were bite size and you can only have like 5-7 bites/morsels of the chicken and that’s it, to me that cheating with portion where the butter chicken on the menu costs around $18 even if you don’t get the meal. It’s like getting no chicken at all. I would expect at least 5-6 cubes/chunks (not slices) of chicken in the butter chicken curry, to even it be considered a meal with your rice and enjoy your meal. I have ordered food delivery multiple times and even if the food was average, the portion of food given a was worth the $40+ and at times I was even surprised to get such portions as some people understand that food delivery isn’t cheap. I would have been satisfied with my order if I was given at least the minimum portion of food I paid for and felt like I actually had butter chicken and not a sample of it. Mango lassi was good and the...

I've ordered online a couple of times now and had two widely different experiences. The first time I placed an order was shortly after Maharaja opened for the day- I requested a pickup time for about a half hour later. I got an automatic email from Door Dash stating my order would take an hour to be ready; I wound up waiting an additional few minutes once I got to the restaurant before my order was brought out. A couple minor things weren't correct with my order; I also found a couple of staples in my naan.

I did order a second time today to give Maharaja the benefit of the doubt and had a better experience. I ordered online after 2PM and my order was ready in 20 minutes. I wasn't greeted when I walked in and nobody actually seemed to be in the restaurant, but my order was on a warming tray by the front door- I grabbed it and left without speaking to anyone. No staples in my food this time around, which should seem like the bare minimum, but after last time, was a pleasant surprise.

Prices are about what you'd expect to pay at other Indian restaurants in the Seattle area. Vindaloo does taste strongly of ketchup, and is a deep reddish hue that makes me think they do use it (for...

We decided to splurge a little for my husband’s birthday and try a place we had never gotten food from that was a bit more expensive than other Indian restaurants we frequent. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement. I am really really at a loss as to how this place has so many good reviews. Ordered DoorDash on a Saturday night. We had chicken biryani, chicken vindaloo, ghobi manchurian, samosa, naan, and malai kofta. Nothing was authentic tasting or fresh tasting. The portions were disappointing small for the price. The ghobi manchurian was soggy and the cauliflower used was very small and tasted previously frozen, not fresh at all. Poor quality pieces of chicken thigh were used in everything. I know chicken thigh is cheaper than breast, but come on, with the amount they are charging for the dishes I would expect better. The naan was flavorless and had flecks of charcoal all over it; time to clean the tandoor, y’all. If you like authentic Indian food and know what it tastes like, save your money with this place. You will be sorely disappointed if you don’t. This place is for people that don’t know what Indian food really...
