While looking for something else on Reddit, I came across a thread about Mexican food in Seattle and a place on Crown Hill came highly recommended. The catch is it has the worst name ever: tacos and beer. That's it, tacos and beer not even tacos y cerveza just tacos and beer. With the name like that, it has to be good, right? But the folks on Reddit were going on and on about it. So I talked the family into checking it out. As we got closer I said to myself, and to them, oh no this isn't the place in the gas station right across from Dick's is it? And yes it was. This was indeed, in addition to the bad name, a gas station Mexican food joint.
Parking was easy, and it was a good start as I noticed the small bar boasted an outstanding tequila selection. I was intrigued, and we got a great booth. Although the view was really just a very busy Holman road, lots of people making dangerous left turns, with Dick's in the background. The waitress took our order of chips and guac but didn't even ask us if we wanted anything to drink. She came back after too long, and took both our drink and dinner (they had chimichangas, yay!) order. Things were already going downhill, but then the food arrived before the cocktails and we weren't very happy. We complained and the drinks came out right away, so of course we're wondering how long they had been sitting there. The place was clearly understaffed, one main waitress covering 10+ tables, plus an assistant with poor English who was sometimes delivering things. The bar was suddenly very busy, but come on that is a cardinal sin.
My wife hated her too-salty tacos, my son thought his burrito was pretty good, I thought my chimi was excellent. And the margaritas are very good. But the terrible service was a very bad look. I'd go back, but it might be hard to get anyone to come...
Read moreI ended up coming back for a second round there beers great except when I ask for a pitcher they have it but its plastic and the glass pitchers r much better it not only keeps the beer colder longer it also keeps the beer tasting good I know the glass pitchers r way expensive but if I was an owner of a restaurant id have glass pitchers I know Taco & Beer is doing great business so it would pay for itself .Much better for the customer anyways I ordered a chicken fajita I was hoping the seasoning was already cooked into the chicken like its suppose to be but the cook put way to much fajita seasoning it was an over kill and the peppers r cut way to thick they need to dice the red and green peppers .All in all it was ok I did enjoy our waiter he was awesome as like before the staff is great the atmosphere is very comfy and a warm feeling loved the music very relaxing the food just needs to improve is my only complaint otherwise I liked the place alot and maybe come back for...

Remember when you had that gas station taco spot you low key let people in on? But at the same time you visited often to make sure they stayed in business?
Well, I went back to the spot tonight to check it out and man, things have changed. No more free chips and salsa and a menu with literally zero pricing. The drink menu had prices but spoiler alert...we were overcharged for the beer we ordered. When asking about the pricing difference we certainly weren't greeted with an apology; it was as if we were inconveniencing them to correct it.
After trying to decide what to do we eventually left. It's funny, the gas station spot with affordable food and few patrons now has a menu with no prices and a full parking lot. Wild!
I can't even comment on the food as I couldn't stomach the price increases (when looking for a menu online). There are many spots in Ballard worth patronizing now that I don't feel I need to deal with these...
