Good for your taste buds, wallet and body.
Delicious, reasonably priced, and healthy. All in a relaxed environment with friendly staff and prompt service.
The chicken was impressively tender, falling off the bone so easily it felt like our cutlery didn't have to do too much work! The chicken melts in your mouth, and the rice and peas are a solid side.
Their beef patties were also enjoyable.
The proportions of the meals themselves is another thing I would like to praise this restaurant on. Both in servings but also in composition.
As a health-conscious person, I was delighted to see the plate was very well balanced. A large, generous serving of proteins, a decent serving of veggies and a good sized portion of carbs. I didn't feel wanting for any of the three categories and appreciated the balance I observed on everyone's plates!
Most restaurants, and in my experience Caribbean restaurants tend to lean more heavily on loading your plate with carbs, especially inexpensive rice while skimping on the protein. The vegetables served are usually smaller and just for optics rather than actual nutrition.
I am happy to say that is definitely not the case here. The portions are large, delicious AND well proportioned.
The only possible complaint could be the décor, but with food that tasty, I honestly couldn't care less. You're much better off having a wholesome and delicious meal here than paying nearly twice for generic pub fare elsewhere.
A good, delicious meal at a fair price is already hard to come by these days. But a good, delicious meal that's GOOD for you and doesn't leave you feeling bloated or lethargic afterwards? Anyone can cheat and make delicious junk that's awful for you.
This felt like genuine home style cooking.
I know this because I regularly buy Jamaican jerk dishes from a neighbour, and have eaten at many Jamaican people's homes.
This restaurant not only reminded me of home cooking, but did it much better and at an even bigger portion.
And it's not like the people in my life cannot cook, Mo Bay is just really that good.
I will remember this restaurant next time I am in the area and I will spread the word to...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Mo-Bay Grill with good friends visiting from NJ at the recommendation of a woman who works right across the street in Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum. She said it was her favorite lunch place. We were not disappointed!! The outside doesn't indicate how great the food is or the kind of people that run it.
The menu has a great variety both for seafood lovers and land lubbers. Before ordering, the owner, Wesley, came over and greeted us. He and his wife started this local gem many years ago. They are native Jamaicans, lived in DC for a while as well, but decided to come down to Florida to start this restaurant. He truly loves people and runs Mo-Bay Grill with excellence. I ordered from the lunch menu which has really affordable prices. My seafood/shrimp Po-boy was excellent. Lunch specials range from $7.99-12.99 (as I remember it). One of us had the chicken curry and was very happy. My wife had a cheeseburger and was very pleased. The desserts are also very good. Jamal served us and was very kind, pleasant and professional. He took great care of us. After our meal Wesley came back over to make sure we were all happy and offered to be our designated picture taker for our group photo. His personal touch makes Mo-Bay a special place to visit. Make sure to eat here. You won't be disappointed!! God bless Wesley, his wife, Jamal, and all who make...
Read moreI went in the other night for the first time with my cousin and wasn't impressed at. The only saving grace of the meal we had was the soup. My cousin and I each ordered a cup of soup. She had the pepper pot and I had the soup of the day, and both were quite good. My cousin ordered a glass of wine, while I ordered a beer. My beer wasn't served with a cold glass to pour it in and her wine had obviously turned to vinegar. Our waitress took care of the wine and brought back a new glass. We ordered an entree to split and when it came I have to say I wasn't impressed for the price we paid. It was obvious half the vegetables in the stew were frozen in a $24 entree. The shrimp on top were cooked well, and the sauce was tasty but the frozen vegetables turned me off, especially when those vegetables are in season. While we ate, I heard a waitress arguing with another patron about their order instead of trying to make it right. Our waitress complained whenever she was at our table, which wasn't as often as she should have been. She was busy in the back of the house doing end of night prep instead of taking care of her tables. All in all, I was not impressed with the service or the food especially for the price. I won't be...
