I have been driving by this place for months after picking up sushi at H EB for a quick snack.(I know...yuck but it does the trick sometimes) I make my own sushi at home and I used to manage a sushi restaurant in Austin so I am very picky about the freshness of the fish and the vegetables. My husband and I are big fans of sushi and we were incredibly surprised at how absolutely delicious and fresh everything was. You usually have to wait 15 to 30 minutes for sushi at a sushi restaurant in Austin but all of our food came out very quickly (within 5ish minutes) and exactly as we had ordered it. (All sauces on the side) But it was a Thursday at 5 o'clock in the evening. The hot sake was perfectly warmed, the beer was ice cold and the service from Natalie was flawless. We are big raw salmon people but the tuna was even better than the salmon!!! For those who like cooked rolls...the "king of sushi" roll (i think that was the name) was also amazing. Juicy shrimp and crawfish and perfectly cooked eel. I can't say enough about this place!!! It was our first time and we will most definately be back!!!
UPDATE: a year later.... We still only order from sakura. Their fried chicken rice is TOOO DIEEE FOR!!! The spicy salmon handrolls without spicy mayo add sriracha are my favorite!! We always order the following: the honeymoon appetizer is my hubs favorite. Deep fried jalapeno stuffed with salmon, cream cheese and I dont know what else perfectly flash fried to a crispy sensation. The cucumber wrapped appetizer is a staple in our order as well...we always ask for extra citrus soy sauce (the sauce they put on top) to dip our other delectable bits in. The rockets roll is our favorite but add mango!!! It's the best. (Rockets...not rock n roll) I always get an extra order of the red masago because I love to dip my bites in it, then the citrus soy sauce. Remember....no sauce on anything!!!! The freshness and flavors really express themselves when it's not smothered in sugary or greasy sauce!!! Order the sauce on the side, then decide if it's a perfect compliment for your taste buds. The unfiltered nigiri shake is awesome...especially in the summer. Perfectly lightly sweet with that sake kick! I have food allergies and I can eat here!! (Can ya tell?) I dont work there nor am I an investor. I just love that I can eat fresh, crispy, delicious sushi and fried rice without all the prep and mess at home for a fraction of what it costs in Austin...in Seguin!!!!! Order...endulge and enjoy friends!!! It's really...
Read moreBeen here twice now. Restaurant is a good business decision for the Chinese owners. The rice is typical long grain used in Chinese cooking not medium grain that Japanese prefer. Sushi is made with same rice. Sushi has a lot of mayonnaise hidden in rolls, mayonnaise is not a traditional Japanese condiment. I came for lunch and ordered the teriyaki chicken bento box. Chicken was cold. California roll was loosely wrapped and easily fell apart this is because they use long grain rice instead of short grain sushi rice. No wasabi provided without me asking. No picked Ginger. I came for dinner and none of the traditional sushi rolls were done right. Many had some kind of mayonnaise added. I had to request special cucumber and tuna rolls without mayo. The spider roll was drowning in spicy mayo. The crab was cold, soft and spongy like it had been sitting around for several hours and absorbed moisture from the environment. Fried food is supposed to be crisp and crunchy. They are not using panko breadcrumbs but the same batter as they use in Chinese fried dishes. Panko breadcrumbs is used in Japanese cooking commonly and not wheat batter. I'll come back in six or seven months to see if they get their act together. They need to hire a Japanese head chef (or at least someone that studied under a Japanese chef. As it is HEB's Sushiya is much better (at least they use...
Read moreWe tried to eat here to celebrate my husbands birthday. He loves sushi and the restaurant had awesome reviews. I say “tried to eat” because we didn’t get served. We were seated at a booth then forgotten. Several members of the waitstaff made eye contact with us and served tables around us. At the 15 minute mark my husband said we should just leave. someone overheard him and finally asked if we’d like drinks. We gave the gentleman our drink order then about 10 mins later he sent a different server to ask for our drink order. We gave the young lady our order again along with our order for our meal then asked if we could get our kids meal out as quickly as possible since after almost 30 mins of waiting our toddlers we’re getting cranky. She said it wasn’t likely because it was really busy and the kitchen was backed up. I was incredibly confused since the restaurant was only half full. We decided to leave before our toddlers melted down and made everyone miserable. We were very...
