Love the fact that 1838 now open on Saturdays until 8pm!! In Seguin, it's hard to find any restaurant other than fast food open. 1838 serves a variety of dishes which can include Enchiladas to a good ole Fried Fish plate. On this date, took my elderly parents. My go to dish is usually this Strawberry Salad which can choose to add Chicken or Shrimp or vegetarian style. I chose shrimp this time around. Their shrimp is grilled and it is soo good. I choose to remove blue cheese and raspberry vinegrette. Their Ranch is soooooo delicious!! I can literally eat it as an appetizer with crackers! I caught my father doing the same!! You do have to ask for additional crackers but the waitresses there are ALWAYS so nice and helpful. This visit we had a very nice waitress who was spanish speaking and brought our drinks and the other waitress took our order. We did not wait long at all to have us seated. This was around 4pm on a Saturday. My husband had Fish and Shrimp. I could not believe the size of the Fried shrimp! Pictured below. It was soo good!!! My mother ordered the pork loin which was breaded and stated that the meat was very tender. Huge portion size as well. Now there was a price difference in Fish and Shrimp, the one sign had $16.99 as the special as you walked in but the sign by the desserts said it was $15.99. We didn't have dessert as they had run out of their coconut pie which is soooo delicious. On a previous To Go Visit.. picked up a slice and it was very good and per ladies, they make their own desserts there. Fyi. Pricing...little pricey. For the 4 of us close to 75-80.00. With my parents budget may not be able to come that often but the food is worth it....
Read moreMy friend and I dine here frequently. This past Saturday we stopped in at 12:30 for our usual, Liver and onions, with a fried pickle appetizer. The food is always excellent here, the service not so much. Our server, Julie was absolutely amazing!! Julie smiled, addressed us with a welcome and let us know her name. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and told us about the specials, and what desserts were available when she brought the drinks. She brought out the pickles, took our order for the liver, dropped extra napkins, and checked with us on drink refills. Our food came out and she made sure not to just drop the plate and run away. She took a second to let us assess if there was anything else we might need( butter for the potatoes) and got it right back to us. In the year that I have been eating here( at least once a week), this was the best service I’ve had. It was relatively busy, but I noticed each table she had was getting the same level of service. I love the food at 1838, but now I love the service as well. They just need to get all their servers to demonstrate the same level of service. It makes it easier to part with my money in this economy, when the staff acts like they appreciate...
Read moreFirst time visiting 1838: Start with walking in 30 minutes to closing... every employee in the restaurant made eye contact but kept looking away and acting as if our party wasn't there as if they were trying to wait us out so they didn't have to seat another table at the end of their night. After about 7 or 8 minutes someone came up and greeted us and figured out where they were going to seat us... the waiter who kept disappearing into the kitchen mislead us into drinks for the kids and hesitated to correct his mistake when I specifically made sure in the beginning if they were or were not included in the price of the kids meal.. which was fixed thankfully. The food was awesome a humongous chicken fried steak cooked pretty close to perfect and everything felt and tasted fresh... the catfish my wife got was great as well even tho I could say a little seasoning in the batter(ie: salt, pepper, paprika) would have improved it a bit but either way it was great...
