Aloha To Go is a restaurant that makes you feel like true Ohana, from the first moment you walk in the door. As you walk inside, you are instantly greeted by a warm smile. Happiness radiates from the building due to its adorable exterior and interior decor, as well as the energy of the team at this eatery. Beautiful drone shots of Hawaii played on a large TV, which was a super entertaining touch. The owner, Jen, was such a delight. Seriously awesome. We talked with her about her life in Hawaii, and she was so kind and hospitable. You could tell the entire team at Aloha To Go was like a family. Happy, having a good time, and treating the restaurant like a second home. True Aloha culture. Stepping foot into Aloha To Go definitely makes us feel like we’ve been teleported back to Hawaii, and we absolutely loved that feeling. With such a positive and loving environment, amazing food almost always coexists. If you’re looking for truly traditional Hawaiian plate lunch style food, this is absolutely the place to be. For our drinks, we picked out a couple of Aloha Maids. Then, of course we couldn’t start our meal off without ordering four of their divine looking spam musubi. Not only did they look amazing, but they were by far the best musubi we have had on mainland. Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and sauced spam, upon pristinely cooked white rice, wrapped with delicious nori. Seriously heaven in a hand wrapped package! We then received the Kalbi Ribs and the Teri Beef Sandwich. Both of which were seriously phenomenal plates. The Kalbi Ribs were prepared flawlessly and the Teri Beef Sandwich was extremely flavorful. We definitely recommend adding the pineapple chutney onto the sandwich, it seriously adds an entirely different level of enjoyment! Their macaroni salad was righteous. No bitter aftertaste, like many macaroni salads that we have had. Super smooth and creamy. Same statements apply to their coleslaw. Aloha To Go definitely encompasses the true Hawaiian spirit of love, family, and amazing food. We will definitely return and make this one of our new favorite local spots. We are so thankful for this experience and finding this authentic Hawaiian...
Read moreFirst, I only write reviews for places that are extremely good or extremely bad. I am not sure how this place has 4.8 stars. As Gordon Ramsay would say, people come to eat at a restaurant for freshly cooked food not reheated food from yesterday (or more).
So yes, as even confirmed by the girl who takes your order and serves your food, the food is "prepared the night before and reheated". If you are okay with this, fine. My leftover food at home tastes better. I would have been better off with a $1.00 hamburger from McDonalds - at least it is cooked to order and everything is fresh.
I had the $15.95 pork rib meal with pineapple slaw and steak fries. The pineapple slaw tasted like it was 5 days old. The pork tasted liked it was cooked in a pressure cooker, stored in the refrigerator for 3 days and then slobbered on some sweet and sour sauce and reheated on the grill. It wasn't even reheated enough and was luke warm in the middle. There is a lot of sauce to disguise the reheated pork. The steak fries were okay except they use some kind of seasoned salt that has nothing to do with Hawaii. The cooked cabbage was equally disgusting. My wife ordered the platter of three meats and couldn't even finish it.
So we spent $45 for REHEATED LEFTOVERS. When the girl asked how everything was, I explained how bad it was and that it was reheated food and had I known I wouldn't have even ordered it. I told her she should post a sign that says all of the food is reheated. Her response was "I'm sorry" and walked away. Wow....
I have been to Hawaii and have eaten good Hawaiian food - this is not it.
In response to your reply, your staff absolutely did not offer "a new plate, an alternate meal, and a refund." I specifically told the young lady (the only one who came out to talk to us) that had I known your food was not cooked fresh to order I wouldn't have ordered it. That's not a question I should have to ask at a restaurant. But at the cost of $45.00 I finished the meat from the ribs and the fries. My wife was equally hungry and ate only the pork and beef from the Big Kahuna and left everything else behind. Too bad your staff...
Read moreThis is a sad review for us considering how much we love the Aloha to Go in Indian Shores. Last night June 25th we stopped at this location for an early dinner/ late lunch I want to say around 3 or 4. I'm not sure if it was just a rough night, but this location was nothing like the Aloha to Go we know. The Indian Shores location is always kept clean and the food has always been really great. Last night at this restaraunt this was not the case. Firstly, the place was completely empty when we arrived but none of the tables were clean. There was garbage and food all over the floor and sauces and food on many of the tables even though there were 3 employees and at times they seemed to be just standing around. There were a lot of flies in the restaraunt, which I know can happen sometimes, but it seemed to be quite a bit considering the doors were closed and it could have been related to the garbage in the restaraunt. The garbage can indoors near the dish bin smelled really awful.. like either the garbage or the unwashed can had been sitting for a long time, similar to the smell of a dumpster in the sun. On top of this, two of the female employees on staff (I apologize I didn't get their names) were bickering pretty loudly and generally just being rude to each other almost the entire time we were eating. One of the female workers seemed to be instructing the male cook who overcooked my Mahi terribly. It was very awkward and made it so I didn't feel comfortable asking for it to be remade and unfortunately it was pretty inedible and I ended up throwing it away. Thankfully the Big Kahuna my fiance ordered was great and we were able to share some of that. Again.. I'm not sure if this was just a rough night or maybe a staffing issue, but it was unfortunate. We will be traveling past this location and continue eating at Indian Shores for the Aloha we know...
