Ordered 3 calzones, 2 calamari apps & 12 garlic knots. It was over $80. The restaurant was a very small hole in the wall place in the same building/parking lot as a busy gas station. Garlic knots were hard, over seasoned with garlic and looked like biscuits. The All Meat calzones were so salty we could not even eat half. The calamari breading had an over-cooked appearance (nothing like the pictures in the menu) was a mix of rings and little legged things, and was very bland. Definitely will not be ordering again. Driving on by to another Italian restaurant.
Edited after sarcastic response I take offense at your response which seems to try and portray me as an ignorant cheapskate. My comment about cost was meant to indicate we expected better quality food for the cost, perhaps I should have stated that straight out. I do know what calamari look like and have normally received slices or small rings, rarely receive majority of the portion to be small, leggy creatures. My comment on this was to point out that it didn't compare to what I was accustomed to receiving at numerous other restaurants and also that they were overcooked. Your response concerning my opinion of very salty calzones was to fake-act shocked that your meatballs were salty. I did not realize that your meatballs were highly salted and I actually saw no indication that there were meatballs in your calzones since your menu does not indicate that ingredient, only burger, sausage, ham and substituted chicken for pepperoni. Your passive aggressive reaction to a customer's opinion definitely lowers my judgement of your business.
Second edit after another response. We actually ordered 2 All Meat Calzones, 1 Chicken Alfrado Roll, 2 Calamari appetizers and one dozen Knots. I have included the receipt and the boxes were even labeled to that effect. This proves that I do know what i ordered. If something different was placed in the box I wouldn't know, but there were no meatballs in our Calzones. I do see that your original response has now been edited to remove your comment about salty meatballs and others. That right there shows you knew you were incorrect in your description. I did phone this morning to speak with the owner who I was told was the person who replies to reviews. Not because I wanted anything from your business, but because the person who had sarcastically responded did not behave in any kind of professional manner I would expect from a restaurant owner. Based upon the tone of comments, I had thought it might have been a twenty-something who was used to attacking people on Facebook or something. Needless to say, I was surprised to be told that responses were done by the owner and the young lady on the phone said the owner hardly ever comes in. If, you as the owner were not present when my order was prepared, how can you have an opinion as to how it was prepared or cooked? Now, as to my review of the location, it is as I stated, sharing a building and parking lot with a gas station. I almost drove past it because I was looking for a standalone restaurant based on the picture that showed up when I searched. I have seen other reviews of your restaurant which seem to follow the same line. Some have stated the location was a suprise and food quality lacking in comparison to increased prices. You can attack me and try to discount my review but a customer review is a personal opinion based upon experience. I am not attacking you as a person, I don't know you and don't understand why you have perceivded this as a personal attack and thus felt the need to try and belittle me. I have reviewed many places of business coast to coast and most have received 5 stars. Here I have clearly stated my food review after being your customer and I wish to have nothing further to do with you or your business. Go ahead, post a do not serve if you wish. I will be taking my business elsewhere, just like I commented in my original post.
Response to latest: I never removed and rewrote my posts, you did. I never called screaming nor did anybody cry. I feel...
Read moreFive star food and friendly wait staff. Three stars for presentation and preparation. I had high hopes for Mamma Mia's Italian Restaurant. I had to drive to Knoxville, TN on business. I was meeting another family there and had to pick an Italian restaurant. I liked the 4.6 star rating and read many reviews. This place sounded perfect and seemed to be the place locals go for good, sit down Italian dining. I left disappointed but our bellies were full. So, what went wrong?
The wait staff greeted us as soon as we went through the door and began pushing tables together to accommodate our group. We were handed menus and ordered drinks. So far, so good. Then I opened the menu. Uhg, remnants of trapped, smashed food between the pages. That should NEVER happen. NEVER happen! The staff has full control over the use and care of the menus. Menus should at least be examined before putting away and preferably wiped down with a clean cloth dampened with mild soap water. The is completely the fault of the manager for not inspecting the menus to insure the wait staff are paying attention to the little things that speak volumes to the customers. There went one star and almost my appetite. Then it was time to order food.
Everyone placed their orders and I submitted mine for Stromboli. I was wavering between the lasagna and the Stromboli. I should have went for lasagna. When it came to the table, it was a Calzone, not Stromboli. It had all of the right ingredients for Stromboli but it was definitely a Calzone. Any Italian restaurant worth their salt should know the difference and execute the order properly. My Calzone was delicious and I would definitely order it again. In fact, I took half of it home. The size could easily feed two adults without leaving either hungry. The other dishes were equally excellent and large portions. That is the reason I started my review by pointing out that the food is five stars, even when they get it wrong.
If you are uncertain whether to visit this place, which is attached to the side of a gas station, then you need go for it. You won't be too disappointed and you will leave with a full belly and leftovers. I look forward to visiting again when I'm in the Knoxville area. I hope by then they have stepped it up a notch and become a true, five...
Read moreThis is really hard to have to write this review. We visit Sevierville frequently. In three days we have ordered food from you two nights out of three. Over Thanksgiving, we had two deliveries as well. And unfortunately, we had a problem with the order the second time around, during our visit at that time. We called and let you know, but no one offered to make it right. We just settled with what we received. So, we decided to give it another try, since your food is excellent and has a great flavor! Tonight I honestly have to say, the experience was not good, the second time to order again. You bring our food and forget the salad. That was my dinner, all I was eating for the night. We called and it really did not seem like anyone cared that the salad was missing. Thirty minutes after the delivery was made, I finally received my salad. By this time, I had lost my appetite. That should have been brought back immediately. But, I guess other deliveries transpired first. Afterall, what are we, five minutes away? Just really disappointing that there was not any urgency to the situation. To anyone who wants really good food, this is the place. Hopefully, your experience with your order, especially if delivered, will be a better turnout than ours has been two times out of four, in a month. I suggest that you check your orders more carefully, before allowing them to go out and be delivered. The individuals that delivered our food all four times, was given a very generous gratuity. These individuals did their job and deserved the gratuity that was given to them. You need to check all orders before sending them out. Mistakes can be made and we understand that, but having a better attitude goes a very long way and will make a difference in wanting to give you...
