I ordered from Uber Eats thinking that this restaurant had some good reviews so let’s try something new.
When the food arrived the first thing I noticed was my hot sushi. Not spicy hot - temperature hot. Since there was quite a bit of time between it being prepared and delivered the questionable safety of it meant straight to the garbage.
The filet and shrimp orders we received had SIGNIFICANTLY overcooked shrimp (dry, crispy and chewy) and the medium rare filet was cooked well (which was a shame to do to such a nice cut of beef). The fried rice orders we received had burnt chicken in them. I love crisp chicken - when it is breaded and supposed to be crisp - but not when burned and topped onto fried rice.
We picked at some of the food a little (not the questionable hot sushi) and finally looked at each other and threw this culinary abortion away in the trash.
I contacted uber eats about this and after talking to 3 different customer service reps I finally got one who understood what I was saying. He was sorry that it was all the restaurants fault apparently and that they had nothing to do with it (aside from taking the order, representing the restaurant, collecting money, adding service charges and handling the delivery, lol). The rep suggested apparently that I do a ball chargeback.
Maybe this was a bad night for them (Friday), maybe they are new, maybe a lot of things… but this was just horrible.
Now the only thing that earns the 1 star where it should have been zero stars - the bubble tea. The bubble tea was wonderful. Maybe just do that and leave the whole “food” thing out of it.
And Tokyo… you can thank Uber Eats for this review. They could have credited me back and I wouldn’t be this irritated. But really guys, this was bad.
Tldr Version: Culinary Abortion, try...
Read moreI've come to this restaurant frequently over the last 5 or more years. I always get the Chicken Fried Rice and an order of Volcano Rolls. The chicken fried rice and any other hibachi style food is genuinely a great part of Tokyo Sushi's menu. I've tried a lot of other restaurants in the twin cities area and have to say they make my favorite chicken fried rice ever. They serve it with yum yum sauce, which to me is the best combo for their fried rice.
Now to speak on their sushi, I believe this is where I can see where it could go wrong looking through the various reviews at Tokyo Sushi. Any rolls they serve that are tempura or essentially cooked like their spider roll or volcano roll are fantastic every single time, although the volcano roll may look slightly daunting to a person with minimal experience eating sushi rolls. As for the more true to sushi rolls, I personally don't have a great enjoyment eating non-tempura sushi here, so I wouldn't recommend a raw fish food here if you're new to Tokyo Sushi and don't have a good entre to pair it with. Ultimately, if you can handle eating at Kyoto's all you can eat sushi, Tokyo Sushi will maintain a similar, respectable quality.
That being said, I still come back from Minneapolis to eat at Tokyo Sushi, because they have amazing food, service, hospitality, and respect for their customers. If you're willing to try out the best hibachi/tempura sushi you'll have in the area, you must dine-in at Tokyo Sushi ASAP. I cannot recommend it enough. Also if you made it this far on my unnecessarily long review, I hope you have...
