Last week my mother and I went to our local Hoss's in Shamokin Dam, Pa, for lunch at 2:00 PM on 7-21-2022. We both got the salad bar, the appearance was not good. Lettuce bowl had a small amount, the shredded carrots had a very old taste, sliced onions were not all that fresh. The macaroni salad didn't have much in the container and also did not taste fresh. French bread had one small slice that looked shriveled up, again not fresh. The price of the salad bar at $11.97 is ridiculous for the quality that we had and you definitely don't get your money's worth, especially if you are a small eater. We also ordered cheeseburgers too, they were over done, very tough, had a burnt taste, and were very thin, our buns had burnt areas on the top bun. Our waitress never asked us how we would like our burgers cooked. Well at 10:00 PM this evening, I got very sick, non stop throwing up. I came to the conclusion that the macaroni salad was the culprit, possibly food poisoning, apparently the macaroni salad was possibly starting to spoil or was old. Our waitress was not all that pleasant either. I had asked her if we could have some extra napkins, she said yes, when she returned she only brought two, one for each of us, I guess you only get one napkin per customer. They really should bring back the paper placemats so your silverware doesn't have to touch the table, as well as having your plate on sitting on the table. You need to wear disposable gloves while at the salad bar for safety and sanitation purposes as well. Our bill was $35.00, a lot of money for the poor quality of food, and service, and on top of that possibly getting food poisoning. It will definitely be quite some time before returning to...
Read moreI travel through Pennsylvania a lot and have noticed several billboards for Hoss
s Steak House and had thought that if given the opportunity I would try them out. Back in May while out in Hershey I almost thought I was going to be able to stop in at one out there and had even checked Google maps for the address however when I left home that morning I forgot to take the directions with me so I was going by memory. After driving around a bit and not finding it I gave up. A couple weeks ago though I was staying overnight near this restaurant and the soccer team I drove out wanted to try out Hoss
s so of course I said it was no problem. Upon entering I noticed that the restaurant was nice and clean and the salad bar had a lot of good selections to where I almost considered just getting the salad bar until I saw the selections that included the salad bar so I ordered one of them. The salad was good as I had thought and the entree was pretty good as well. The steak house did remind me of the old Ponderosa restaurants who also used to include the salad bar with entrée for a decent price. If I have another opportunity to go to one I will and would also say that they seem like a good place to take your kids much like... Read moreHaven't been to a Hoss's in years but it was a great experience!! The best part by far was the random encounter with an elderly couple who were sat near us. Although we didn't speak my wife and I couldn't help but over hear them joking and having a great time just enjoying each other. You could just instinctively tell that they are genuinely good people who have worked hard their whole lives and in a perfect and fair world would likely have much more than they appeared to possess. So when I over heard the elderly gentleman being conserved weather a cup of coffee cost $2 or $3. We wanted to brighten up their day just as they brightened ours and without them ever knowing it they had done so. The only way we could think to repay them for this was to secretly pay for their diner. It was the best feeling to see how surprised and grateful they both were that a stranger might do this for them. It's the first time I've done anything like this but I don't think it will be the last. I hope our small effort to brighten a strangers day might inspire others to do so. This world would be a much better place if it does. Also the food was great! Finally, Thank you and merry Christmas to the unknown elderly couple who have...
