Authentic Italian food made fresh. A large group of family were getting together. I suggested we all go to Borgata's new location. There was so many great food choices that we all wanted to taste. Our server suggested we dine family style on multiple dishes. That was a winning suggestion. Add in some great wine pairings, and this place was a complete hit.
This is the most recent location(2017), which we anticipated for far too long. There were all kinds of brand new plaza construction delays. No worries. We always had our E Dublin Granville location to feed our desires. 3 BIG changes here are the larger space, patio dining(see pic), and of course a full bar. One crucial piece missing is signage. This is not the businesses fault. It is the building developers design flaw. I do love landscaping and greenery, but the street lined young trees hide this beautiful new spot. The plaza is right on the southwest corner of 161 and Linworth. Spacious parking lot. Well lit for safety.
Approaching the glass door entrance is a big arbor patio with tables & chairs to your left(see pic). Some twinkling light strands and mature vineing floral is going to make this a hot spot patio. Now you walk inside to see an open kitchen directly ahead on the far wall. The lengthy bar on your right, reaches out to welcome you. With a red brick front and wood top, it draws your eyes upward. There perched on a large overhang is a big chalkboard(see pic) with colorful chalk menu items. Black ceiling with exposed ductwork and lighting. These are the same iron and wood tables as the other location. Good call on that decor.
The service was spot on. They had great menu knowledge and suggestions. Beverages were continually filled, and plating cleared. Tough job for a party of 30. They did it all with a smile. There is no kids menu but our server did suggest a couple small pasta plates. The kids were eating off all the plates anyway. The portions are quite large to share. I think the kids were all quite happy, judging by the smiles.
The food here was consistent with the East spot. I think they are making sauce at one spot, for both places. Same with some of the other items. Everything is made fresh daily, or to order. We could see into the kitchen as they were pounding and breading the chicken for the Parmesan. I've previously tried and loved the fresh salad, pizza(see video), chicken parm, cavatelli, marinara, meatball, garlic cheese bread, and canolli. So I was all about sharing some Chicken pesto pizza, Gnocchi Alfredo, and that delicious Sausage stuffed pepper. That will be the first item I order on my next visit. What a fireworks of favors on the palette.
This location has a FULL bar. 6 beers on tap(see pic), and Borgata labeled wines from Camelot Cellars. Great Chianti style with wonderful fruity flavors. I admit I sampled many of the wines on the table. Pino Grigio. Barolo. A red Montepulciano which must of been good, because it was gone, and I only got a sip. There was a special seasonal wine in house that night. A cranberry Malbec that blew us away. I took home a bottle. It will be a great wine with the upcoming fall holidays. I bought it has a host gift. We'll see if it makes it that long. The restaurant does have a retail license for selling bottles out the door.
As you do go out the door, you can look down and see two footprints on the floor. These are the owners granddaughters'. She has Cystic Fibrosis, and the owner does benefits each year for several local childrens illness fundraisers.
Thanks to Borgata for accommodating our big group, and taking such...
Read moreBorgata Pizza Café hosted a food and wine tasting event so I thought that I would stop in and check out their new location. They presented eight menu items to sample: salad, meatball, a few of their entrées, and a cannoli. Note: all of these items were portioned to a tasting so the pictures are not the normal portion sizes so please do not judge on size. The deal of the food plus a wine tasting add-on was a great price for great food.
First, the appetizers, the salad was made of nice tender greens, no iceberg to be had, red onion, and delicious homemade Italian dressing that was very good and flavorful. Next to arrive was the Gnocchi Alfredo and it was soft, plump and tender with a nice creamy cheese flavor. Finally the meatball, which is made of a combo of beef and sausage and was firm and well packed. While I wished that I could have had the full sized version I am glad I did not as the rest of the dishes that came out were very filling.
The entrées that we sampled was a good sampling of the menu. First came the Cavatelli, it was a wonderfully tender pasta in a marinara and served with a piece of garlic cheese bread that was baked just right, not dried out and not soggy. Next came three slices of pizza, cheese, pepperoni, and chicken pesto. The crust on each was thin and baked on a stone hearth for a great taste. The pepperoni was very flavorful, I would order my usual way with extra sauce as it also has a great flavor. Following the pizza was the Chicken Parmesan, which had a great crispy and flavorful breading. The owner, talking about the each of the dishes during the event, told us that their usual serving is very generous; and often that people have had plenty left over to take home. Our final entrée to sample was the sausage stuffed pepper. I have problems with peppers but I pulled out a bite of the sausage and it was also done like the meatball and full of flavor and quite spicy.
The final plate was the chocolate chip cannoli, the shell was thin and crispy and the filling was well chilled and firm with a great flavoring of vanilla all while sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Last but certainly not least, I have to give kudos to the staff. There were a lot of plates coming and going and the entire team did an exceptional job! They kept the water glasses filled as well as keeping the wine pairing up with the food for myself and the other that paid for the wine...
Read moreInteresting reading other reviewers; seemed to either love it or hate it. We found this place by accident after we went to a different pizza place, which was supposed to open at 4:00; but, by 4:15, the restaurant was still dark. We weren’t willing to wait around for the ovens to get hot (but, that’s another review for somewhere else).
This restaurant is in a strip mall, large and open, with a bar to the left as you walk in. There are ample tables and chairs for dine-in seating. The acoustics wasn’t the best; we arrived before they got busy, which I was thankful for. There are multiple TV screens, at the time, playing football and basketball. The kitchen was big and open; it appeared to be clean and well staffed. Pizza boxes were stacked up high prepared for business. The staff were all wearing masks.
The server we had was very nice; she was attentive and kept our drinks filled - I didn’t hear her name (she had very pretty purple hair).
We ordered garlic cheese bread and it was served with marinara sauce; it was a large portion and easily shared between three people (had leftovers to take home, actually).
We split a 20” pizza, half cheese, half pepperoni pizza. The sauce was good, cheese cooked to a light, golden brown on top. The crust was a little over done on one side but the advantage to NY style, you don’t always need to eat the crust.
I ordered a meatball just to try it out. It had a good texture, definitely “homemade” consistency, topped with cheese and surrounded by sauce (a.k.a. gravy to some).
I ordered a sweet tea, no ice. It was a little light on both the flavor of the tea, and the “sweet”.
I must say, I think they are a little on the pricey side. It isn’t that the product they are serving isn’t good, it is just a little over the cost I am willing to pay for what I ordered; especially since in this case, you aren’t paying for ambience along with your food.
All-in-all, would I make a special trip and seek this restaurant out? No. Would I go back?Perhaps, if I was in the area and wanted a few meatballs. I’d do 3.5 stars but that isn’t an option on Google,...
