I've only heard good things about Joya's and was excited to finally go! It's a nice area, nice cozy restaurant, and warm ambiance. There is limited seating and limited bar seating and they mostly do to-go orders. I'm sad that the hours are so limited and I can't go after work, but would have to take the day off or go on the weekend. There's street parking around the area and other shopping and dining spaces.
The menu is short and simple, you really can't go wrong with any choice. I got the Kati roll, which is incredible, and so delicious. It's made well, has a unique and super flavorful sweet and tangy sauce and the lamb is so good. I also got the milk chai and that was good, I feel like it could have used a bit more spice. I tried the nitro chai and really like it, it's a bit sweeter and bolder in flavor. For the roll and a cup of chai, it's about $22+tip, which is a tad expensive but really delicious food. I have tried their Toast in a Box and it was incredible. The flavors mix so well together and everything is made well. I can't describe it, but it hits all the right spots for whatever breakfast you're craving. I think Joya's has nailed a balanced breakfast, using bright, delicious, and beautiful flavors.
I want to try everything else because I've only heard good things, but I'll have to try to find time during their hours.
Staff are always super nice and service was pretty quick and easy. They don't have a ton of seating, but we went really early and got a table but it quickly filled up to no seating room. I recommend this for breakfast, lunch, a quick bite, casual date, and a unique and flavorful food experience. It's unique, it's very good, and I know the chef and staff put a lot of care into...
Read moreLet’s start with the best way to describe Joya’s: Wow. Came in on Saturday morning for my first visit after wanting to come in for a while. I am blown away by the command of flavor in everything from the food to the drinks. The restaurant is located in a small storefront with a long bar and a couple of tables to choose from. I was blessed with the Kati Roll, which is lamb kebab, egg, pickled veg, and a plethora of sweet, sour, aromatic, flavorful chutneys and sauces wrapped in a fried roti. As a Moroccan American This reminded me of my cultural foods I grew up with in my moms family. There is such command of flavor and such a beautiful blend of many things working together to create joy to your palate. The owner (I’m assuming) walks around and checks in on the customers. There is hustle and bustle in a way that doesn’t make the small and busy environment stressful, because customers know they’ll be pleased with what they drink or eat here. It feels and tastes like home, and as someone who cooks and eats all over the city, this is the best bite I’ve had in the Columbus area. By far. I had the café de olla which reminded me of Yemeni coffee, roasted and brewed with aromatic spices and a subtle sweetness. Again, an explosion of welcome flavor that is so hard to find at even the most popular restaurants in the Columbus area. And I respect our restaurants quite a big deal, but no one is commanding flavor, efficiency, customer service, and overall experience quite like Joya’s. I wish them...
Read moreJoya's is a little place - tucked into the downtown of Old Worthington - but I wouldn't call it quiet. The inside is relatively small and is super busy every time I've been there, but everyone who works there is helpful and efficient, and the food is absolutely great and unlike anything else around central Ohio.
By now I've had almost the entire Joya's menu, and multiple things are among the best lunch treats you could have around Columbus. The cheesy double crunch is like a perfected, elevated cheesy gordita crunch from Taco Bell - the cheese is so smoky and delicious, and the braised beef is tender, saucy, and absolutely packed with flavor. There's really nothing you could do to improve it. The kati roll is the same way, with tender, juicy lamb and tons of bright accents tucked into the roll. The samosas - both the veggie and the chicken - make a lovely side with tender, flavorful fillings and a yummy sauce. And the breakfast sandwich has more flavors than you can count - it's a rival for the Fox in the Snow breakfast sandwich, albeit very different.
There are a few things at Joya's I just found okay: the chap cheese is a little messy and underwhelming, the chai isn't as strong or "spicy" as I'd like, and the bengali omelet is so full of ingredients it's a little hard to tell what you're eating. But that means the remaining 80% of the menu is full of awesome bites, so odds are you'll find something awesome there. I can't...
