Billy Boy Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in Shawnee

We were here this past week and it was not good! They were advertising their "new" menu item, macaroni & cheese. It was institution mac and cheese and bad. Really bad! I can say in all honesty the stuff I've eaten in MREs in the military was better than this stuff. Even my husband refused to eat it. I also ordered the brisket and the chicken and dumplings. The brisket was cold and flavorless. I don't know how meat can not have any flavor at all, but it was so bland. And the same for the chicken and dumplings. It was cold and flavorless. My husband took it back up to the counter and had them put it in the microwave for me. It really didn't have any flavor at all. My husband got the all-you-can-eat catfish. It was decent because they made it fresh and brought it out when it was ready. It was the only edible thing we ordered between the two of us. Even the fries were cold and unappetizing.

The service was okay, but we won't be back. It was expensive and the quality just wasn't there again. We've tried it here a few times and it seems like it is in a steady decline. There are better BBQ...

I only tried the chicken and dumplings. The dumplings were small and chewy, not the big fluffy kind I like. The soup base was a very plain cream of chicken with small chunks of chicken. The drink cup was handed to me prefilled with ice, way too much in fact so that barely any soda fit in the cup and it was gone well before I finished my food. Dining in this is not an issue, but if getting a to-go drink I would definitely ask for no ice or easy ice. The ice was small circular pellets similar to crushed ice, so they easily filled the volume of the cup.

I didn't have enough money on me to try anything but soup, but all the meats my friends ordered looked and smelled delicious! I will definitely be back for barbecue, just not the chicken and dumplings!

This review is a long time coming. My wife grew up in Shawnee and one of her favorite meals is the fried chicken salad with Billy Boy’s house made ranch. We have since moved from OK. We have moved around a lot over the past few years, being a military family and I wanted to surprise my wife with something special. Billy Boy house made ranch. So I spoke with the owner and he said that he would see what he could do. After a few weeks I received a call for the owner saying that they had created a dry recipe that they would ship to me and they did. I can’t recommend Billy Boy strongly enough. The owner of Billy Boy BBQ is epitome of what it means to be a patriotic American. They went above and beyond what I was expecting.
