I was excited to hear of a new local donut shop on the Southside of Sheboygan. But then come to find out that they offer gluten-friendly* donuts?! Whaaaa.... AMAZING! It isn't uncommon to watch my kids enjoy something that I'm not able to try, so finding a place that we can all grab a treat is pretty cool. Our family has sampled many of the different flavors + I've overheard, "I like the gluten-free ones better."
Sunday Dough does a great job offering up their core flavors + then peppering in a few featured flavors each month. Not all of their flavors are available in the gluten-friendly version, so variety is a bit limited. Just take note that gluten-friendly donuts are not kept on-hand like some of the other extras you might be lucky enough to find when you go in to pick up your order (at least not at the time of this post). I have to order at least 2 days in advance to be sure that it's made for me. Ordering is a super simple process from their website.
*Please note: I have a gluten sensitivity, NOT a gluten allergy. This is not a certified gluten-free kitchen, so take that for what it's worth. I do think they do their best to cut down on cross-contamination, even boxing up GFr orders separately from the regular....
Read moreOk, I will start with the positives: The store is cute, the staff is very nice and seems to know their product, and the donuts are stunningly gorgeous. BUT, we all know why we get donuts, don’t we? It’s not to look at them, it is to eat them, and at the price of $3.75 PER DONUT we expect the taste and texture to be even more exquisite than the appearance. I am sorry to say that we were deeply disappointed with the lack of flavor in general and the foam-rubber-like texture of the dough itself. The donuts were overwhelmingly sweet with no flavor other than sugar. The dough had zero flavor and it was dry-ish. Even warming them up in the microwave did not help with the texture. We pre-ordered 4 boxes of 8 each, to the tune of $120. Most of them ended up in the landfill. We came to Sheboygan specifically to go to this donut shop. I wish we had gone to City Bakery instead. There is a reason they have been in business for so long. I recommend that you buy your donuts from City or basically ANY other bakery, including any grocery store bakery, where you will get much better donuts for much less money. Sorry, owners. You have a great idea, but your product needs a LOT of improvement! Note: we did not try the coffee or anything else...
Read moreI was going to give a one star but that’s just rude and I’m going to be nice. I usually do the 3 strikes your out rule and I only visited once. We drove an hour and a half for these donuts because I’m pregnant and I wanted donuts like HURTS donuts, but they are permanently closed 😭😭 So I had high expectations entering anyway. I only had like 2 flavors to choose from and I didn’t want any but we drove all the way. It’s my fault , I should’ve pre - ordered. I just hoped if we got there early it wouldn’t be a problem. But I guess either they sell out really fast or they don’t make enough for the day.
The one donut was just not good and I’m a very sweet type of person. I love sweets unfortunately haha. The other donut was pretty good! It tasted fresh for sure. For the price and taste and quality of the donuts , I would just go to my local small town bakery and get the same donuts for better price.
I’m not complaining about the price, I’m sad about the variety. Even online the website didn’t look like many that I wanted.
If I’m ever back in town, maybe I’ll try again. I do like to give it 3 times before I give up.
The staff were...
