This place is literally unbelievable. My wife and I paid nearly $800 for a smaller wedding cake. Dolly took us to the corner table on the left side of the building, set us down, got all of our ideas for the cake, and then said we would also get a free mini cake, on our one year anniversary. As soon as we called them for our free mini cake, one year later, they lied to us and said that we needed to pay money for it and that was not part of their practice. This was a lie straight out of the pits of H E L L . I put it on my mother's life, and my own baby child's life, that Dolly looked Us both in the eyes and told us this. It's one thing if money is tight, but it's another thing to lie to someone and not keep your word. I understand that the bakery is nothing like it used to be when I lived in Shelby township when I was just a small child. Dolly used to take pride in her work and customer service and she used to be very good at her job. No, it's just money money, what can we do for more money. I feel scammed, I feel cheated because I chose this bakery, and then the lady on the phone has the nerves to say be quiet young man you will not speak over me. I will admit, I had some choice words for her as well. But when someone lies to you and then speaks to you like that, what do they expect? Not to mention, I think Dolly and the guys cooking the cakes, have kind of lost their touch. The cake we tried, compared to the cake they gave us at our wedding, was very very different. The cake at our wedding tasted kind of bad in my opinion, and a lot of our guests said I thought the cake would taste much better based on how it looked. because I'm a reasonable guy, the cake looked absolutely beautiful and amazing, but the taste was so dry and so nasty that I only took one bite. I can honestly say that we spent $800 on a cake, that we threw two large boxes out the very next day because we couldn't even give it away for free. So, I just figured I would let everyone know, if you're going to this bakery for a wedding cake, don't believe a word they say about something being free. Nothing in life is free, not even when you spend $800 on a disastrous tasting cake. But this is all okay, Dolly's the one who will have to answer to God one day for lying to our faces, not my wife or myself. This probably was a last attempt for them to get extra money out of us, before they have to shut this bakery down soon because it's lost its quality. I can't express to you how upset and hurt my wife was, I know it's just a mini cake, but it was something special for our one year anniversary, that they claim all of a sudden, that they no longer practice. Honestly, I wish I could handle this my way, but...
Read moreI'm a pastry chef with an Associate's degree in pastry arts. This bakery was kind enough to have me do an orientation there last August. I did appreciate them doing that, but the sanitation of this bakery really needs improvement. When I noticed the owner scraping off cake frosting off the edge of a garbage bin, and no sanitize buckets or safety gloves available, I began to question this bakery's sanitation and food handling immediately. There were actually several more reasons why I disapproved of it during my experience there. I don't intend to criticize, but I won't be fooling around with anyone. I don't want this bakery to be shut down due to its poor sanitation, or the owner's poor food handling, but I do want them to stop serving their products under the gross, and unacceptable habits of theirs. I don't consider it to be sanitary to be scraping off cakes, and wiping the plastic scrapers off the edge of a trash bin, or using equipment and utensils that were never properly cleaned, or selling chocolate éclairs, and other products that were actually contaminated with the owner's saliva. He said if I wanted to work there, I'd have to increase my productivity. I may lack productivity, I may lack repetitiveness, but I do not lack sanitation. One thing that's worse than dealing with a bakery that doesn't fill their quota is a bakery that sells products that put their customers at risk of getting ill, and if this bakery wants to stay in business, they seriously need to improve their sanitation. Being in the food industry myself, I am not going to allow anything my work sells under any of those conditions. Although I found the owners and workers of this bakery to be very nice, and while I was very appreciative of them having me leave my house to have me do an orientation there one morning, I have far too much respect for their customers, and for the food industry. I will not be part of any of that, my sincere word. Militello's isn't a bad place, but it seriously needs to improve their sanitation. Otherwise, they could get closed down, and I don't want...
Read moreI called to have the top layer of my wedding cake re-made for our 1st wedding anniversary and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. First off I was called an hour and a half before I was scheduled to pick it up to see if I could pick it up later because they were really busy in the back. My husband and I were leaving for up north so I told them this wasnât a possibility that I needed the cake at the scheduled time. This is where the problem started. I then arrived to pick up the cake and she showed it to me and it was not what I expected. I expected it to be a replica of my wedding cake (same details they had on file) this was not the case at all. But since we were leaving for up north I didnât have time to explain the issue. When we cut into the cake later that night it was a chocolate cake and not vanilla like our original wedding cake. The biggest disappointment was the taste. This cake was definitely NOT fresh. It was soo dry that it wasnât even edible. So I'm pretty sure because they were âso busy in the backâ that morning that I was given some cake that resembled the details of my wedding cake and it was OLD. When we got home I even had my family try the cake and all agreed that it was horrible. People are paying a lot of money for these cakes and deserve to have the quality to match the price. I will not be returning to this bakery for any of my future needs and am sad that such an important detail was missed for our first...
