We had passed by El Mexico several times as we've explored the Mexican options in town and always remarked how it seemed to do a good business. Finally we decided to go - we were not disappointed! The place was very clean. Like it was spotless and smelled clean above even the food. We sat at the bar and it seemed like a good choice as there were several Hispanic people there already (regulars I'm assuming) and we got to listen to them cheerfully interact with the wait staff in Spanish. I don't know what they were talking about but it sounded fun. There was a lot of laughter. So ambiance - check. We ordered the El Mexico dip and it was fantastic. Salsa and ground beef covered in cheese is my kind of dip and this was one I'll go back for. It was excellent. I ordered the fajitas Hawaiian and my wife had the shrimp fajitas. Portions were beyond enough - we each left with a box and I've made mine with eggs for breakfast and still have some left. My wife had hers on a salad the next day with some leftover still as well. We will definitely be back and I think this is the place I'm most impressed with in town for Mexican so far. To the owners and staff - keep up...
Read moreI am currently at my sisters home and she ordered a simple meal for her and her kids. She just had surgery today on her wrist and hand and therefore had to order out to eat. She sent her son to recieve the meal and when he returned, there was only half the order in the bag. She called to let them know that they forgot to give her some of her food and they argued with her about it. Her three year old is now without his own childs meal and has to split a small meal with his sister because of this mistake from this resturant. Its very simple to fix that issue. Why does the staff have to argue when they were in the wrong? She paid, just give her the correct order. Otherwise issue a refund like you're suppose to. We have had this happen more than once in the past and after this order is fixed or refunded, we will not be returning to this establishment. There are plenty of mexican restaurants that are better at organizing and keep up with customer orders/refunds/resolving issues such as the one list above, without arguing. Unless you want to waste your hard earned money and only get half of what you ordered, I would not recommend this establishment to...
Read moreMy family and I had dinner at El Mexico last night for the second time since moving to Shelbyville. It was absolutely DISGUSTING and an overall terrible experience. We won’t be returning. My husbands food came out first was barely warm, then mine and my daughters fajitas, they were wrong, sent those back and got our salad plates; felt like they had been refrigerated as the rice and beans were literally cold. Fajitas were barely warm. Then about 5-10 minutes later she brought my youngest food, as you could probably guess, it was wrong. Kept her side so she’d have something to eat. Drinks sat emptyy, had to continuously flag down waitress down if we needed something. With so many Mexican joints in shelbyville, we can cross this one off the list! We...
