So first I want to say this is a great little pub! Very friendly service and great atmosphere! (Sort of) So my first impressions walking in were good, the woodwork is great and the lighting was perfect for a pub, we sat down and were greeted by a very friendly fellow, it was kind of like talking to a friend the way he interacted. Which was nice. I ordered my coke and food (scotch eggs and the Haka (lamb) Burger) and the coke was brought out nice and quick, after I slurped it down it was refilled promptly. Then the appetizer of scotch eggs was brought out and it was really good, the egg wasn’t hot but wasn’t cold either so I’m not sure what happened but the flavor was good so I’m just guessing it wasn’t fried long enough or it sat under the heater too long. Then my burger came out, which I’m sad to say I was disappointed in. It was mostly my fault as I took a risk and it wasn’t good, it’s a lamb burger topped with lavender spread. It looked interesting and did in fact taste interesting. First off it was burnt, like you could taste it was burnt, and the lavender just didn’t work. It’s a weird flavor combo of this rich burger with this very floral (it tastes like you have a garden in your mouth) flavor. I think it need more of a savory flavor like maybe caramelized onions and red wine or hp sauce. But whatever was on it just wasn’t good and it didn’t help that the burger was burnt. I do admit it was my fault for not saying anything as they could of corrected the burnt burger but I didn’t think getting another one remade would help the cause. The fries though were amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside with a nice fluffy inside. I’m not usually a fan of English fries as they tend to be soggy but these were amazing! So after that a couple weeks later I went back for the Michigan game. They were showing it in the other room (surprise, there’s two rooms) and this side was much different from the other. It’s much brighter as there’s a giant window at the front and the bar seemed a little sloppy. I sat at the bar and there were boxes and beer bottles sitting around behind it and the bar rag was sitting in the counter next to me the whole time. Just little things though that can be fixed easily. I ordered a pretzel, which was HUGE and delicious and wings which were good but could use a little less sauce as I had a pool in the bottom of my tray of it. Overall a great place to meet friends and have a nice drink and meal to catch...
Read moreBeing a Brit living here in Milwaukee for the past 11 years I tried this pub with my American wife about a year ago to see how good the British food was, she tried the fish & chips, enjoyed it to an extent but it was nothing like British fish where you will be served with a piece of fish that will cover a dinner plate leaving no room for the chips. This was just like any other fish fry you would be offered at any restaurant in WI except for the mushy peas, a Northern thing in UK, but even these tasted funny I had the full English breakfast which was ok, the toast was like a paving slab it was so hard, it must have been so stale , the bacon was neither English, nor American, it was unedible, but the rest was ok. Went there today 7-7-13 to try it again & was totally disgusted by the food, I had ' toad in the hole ' a traditional Brit dish, the Yorkshire pudding was just a sloppy mess, it's supposed to be crispy, the sausages were barely cooked, the gravy is so over seasoned with whatever they put in it that it took away any flavour from the rest of the food & I still have heartburn from it 6 hours later. No wonder the Americans think the Brits don't eat good food. I should get my mum over & show them how to cook British food....Back on the 70s I managed a pub in London with a large Irish community, If I had served them the pint of Guinness I got served here today it would literally been thrown back in my face & that is no joke, the Paddies take their Guinness seriously, the guy serving it had no idea how to pull a pint of Guinness, it's an art. Just a bunch of care less kids, won't be back, & if you are American please don't think this is what a Brit pub & food is like, it is way...
Read moreI have nothing but praises for The Three Lions Pub!
The Mrs and I stopped by for dinner this Sunday night since we were in the neighborhood, and we couldn’t have been more impressed!
The Atmosphere: Once you open the door, it truly feels like you stepped into a pub located in the heart of England. From signed football (soccer) jerseys, all the way to the classic dark wood furniture, every aspect screams of camaraderie and memories to be made!
The service: From the moment we walked we were greeted with smiles! The staff were super considerate, recommending different seating options because a Live Band was playing in the next area over. Our server was awesome! From prompt service to great small talk, all the way to top notch recommendations for food! Even when our server was taking care of other things other staff would chip in and clear plates.
Food & Drinks: Now let me tell you as a true Wisconsinite through and through, I’ve never had a better Old fashioned Brandy sweet. The epitome of perfection, I can’t express how sad I was once I realized I finished my glass.
Food portions are insane! We both ordered the fish and chips, the fillets of cod were massive, fresh , and perfectly battered! The tartar sauce was surprisingly light and not overpowering at all!
For appetizers we had the onion rings with the barbecue dipping sauce, and I have only one word to describe them: ADDICTING.
All in All I give Three Lions Pub a 5/5 hands down, and recommend you stop by when you...
