The Establishment Salon — Local services in Shorewood

I found The Establishment after searching for a Green Circle salon in the area (if you’re not familiar but care about sustainability, it is worth a google search- they go above and beyond to decrease the environmental impact of hair services) and reached out to set up a somewhat last-minute appointment (especially considering a holiday rush) for some color and a cut. I saw Kenzie and showed her a couple inspo pics and explained a couple hair issues I have, and she got to work. She was friendly, and we had a few nice conversations, but also some non-awkward silence, which was relaxing. I didn’t feel pressure to make small talk. Even though I arrived a couple minutes late, she was able to complete some foils, a toner, a cut, and a blow dry with time to spare before I had to leave to cross town to teach a yoga class, which was also greatly appreciated! I absolutely love the results - it was just what I was looking for. I’d had an emotionally draining appointment just before going in, so it was a relief in so many ways to be so pleased with the outcome and leave with more confidence and pep in my step. I brought my daughter here (10 years old) for our first professional haircuts since before the pandemic began. She wanted a bob, which had me pretty nervous, but these stylists are positively artists, and they did a beautiful job creating a fun, short hairstyle that frames her face gorgeously. My hair also turned out lovely, which is nice because a few months ago I lost my marbles and hacked at it myself when it got so long that I was sitting on it. I haven't really been able to feel pretty since, but it was necessary for my sanity, and at the time, everything was understandably shut down.

This place is amazing every time I go, which is about once a year. If I could afford to go more often, I would, but alas. If the prices scare you (roughly 50 bucks for a woman's haircut, give or take ~ten depending on the stylist, I believe), rest assured that you're going to get your money's worth. Steph is the absolute best and the only person I trust with my hair. She is the queen of balayage and always nails it when I come in asking for some color change. I ventured out of my comfort zone last year and tried purple balayage. I loved it and was a little crushed to go back to a more “natural” color for my wedding this year, but she got me right back to a beautiful mushroom brown and now I’m loving that too.

Plus the salon itself is so cute. I always look forward to my appointments- it feels like such a treat! Perfect opportunity to relax and treat myself. I always leave feeling so pampered and beautiful. I’d recommend this...
