El Charro Beer — Restaurant in Show Low

There was a couple hiccups. So the name is El Charro Beer, but they don’t have a liquor license yet? And they don’t allow BYOB either. So I wasn’t really happy with this choice for a Friday night dinner on vacation? Wish I had known ahead.

Next, the menu is vast and looks amazing. Our party had various Mexican plates that everyone enjoyed.

I got the Ribeye, (med rare) with a vegetable medley and soup for a side. Well the Steak came out and I still hadn’t got my soup? I asked and the waiter said oh sorry I’ll get it? Ok, but I usually have the soup or salad as a appetizer/starter?

Well turns out it was ok because the steak was WELL DONE, not the least bit of pink? So when the soup came the steak went back?

The soup was obviously made from scratch and very tasty. The steak was replaced and was also very good. We had a nice dessert too.

Now the wait staff was very young and mostly male, and they were fairly attentive.

However I have a little quirk, when someone is serving me something I always say “Thank You”. It’s how I roll because it’s how I was brought up, and after I say Thank you, I expect my server to say “You’re Welcome”. Not no problem, not OK, but YOU’RE WELCOME! This staff maybe a little nervous mostly never even acknowledged that I said Thank You, they just walked away???

Finally one person said your welcome, very low as he turned away? The hostess did say Thank you have a good night as I said Thank You and goodbye.

It just seemed like the staff was off tonight, with all the great reviews I will certainly be back, let’s see if...

A typical Mexican restaurant vibe with a colorful seating area and custom booth carvings. On the outside this place looks average and unfortunately the service matched... was just ok. The food was good but some items had little to no flavor; as Mexican dishes are expected to have some spice or unique to the establishment. They have an overwhelming menu and when we ordered different dishes we found the same bland sauce on multiple dishes. Understandable when maintaining costs, just a little disappointing to see. The specialty drink concoctions we tried were spectacular on the pictures but fell VERY short when actually presented. We have given this place 4 visits in the past year and each time waited a long time to be seated. No one seems to help other staff in order to provide a better experience for the customers. For example, the host would be busy taking a phone order and have 2 or three people waiting to be seated (including us). 2 waitresses walked by pointing to the people waiting and all the host could simply do was acknowledge and carry on with the call. No waitresses took it upon themselves to help seat guests. However they did check every minute or so by stopping to look at the front door and see if anyone had been seated. Unfortunately, this unenthusiastic service carried through each of our visits. Note: we ate in the barside once. No one served us until we went to the front desk and the cocktails were overly sweet and had no balance. It's an ok spot for the area but it could be better if they put a little more effort into their dishes...

I have eaten here 3 times and all 3 times the food was brought out not the way I ordered it and I don't ask for any special request, just what is on the menu. They don't listen and they don't care!! I asked for green chili on my enchilada and they always give me red.I ordered a bean tostada and it was cold. I love bean tostada and often get them when I eat at Mexican restaurant's and never have I been served a cold one! I asked for no rice and extra beans and when my plate came out it had rice and no extra beans, then when I said something about it, the server responded " well its the kitchens fault" . I feel that it's the servers responsibility to put on the ticket what you ordered and to make sure that the kitchen puts that on your plate.That server received NO TIP! I ordered the carne asada with corn torts and a jalapeño, my plate was brought out with no torts or jalapeño and when I asked my server about it , it took him 15 min to bring it and at that point I didn't need it because my food was gone! I never return my food to the kitchen....it should be done right the first time around. Extremely poor service! They have a " I don't care at all what you want or think" attitude at this place! Customer service matters and is important. I will not return to this place and I will NEVER recommend...
