Popped in here with my mom and brother because another review said this was the best Mexican restaurant in Silverthorne Colorado! Unfortunately, they did not have nachos, however, their chicken tacos were quite simply to die for! The savory flavor had just a bit of heat, was well cooked and the broth was so delicious, l could have stuck a straw in the pot and drank out of it! My brother ordered the carne asada burrito, while mom chose the bean and cheese burrito. We also ordered a side of beans and rice and a piece of chocolate flan. The burritos were enormous! Usually, my brother can knock out the largest of burritos but at Mercado, the portions were so generous that he had to take half of his home. The rice was delicately, flavored and well cooked. The beans were also quite yummy with melted cheese on top, and the chocolate flan was fabulous! They also had a lovely salsa bar with several offerings, many I had never seen before. The chopped cucumber and creamy guac salsas were my favorite! The atmosphere is interesting because the restaurant is attached to a general store. As you can see from the pictures, they have a lot to offer from prime cuts of meat, to Mexican candy! I have not as yet been to Mexico, but this place had the feel of a truly traditional Latin American environment. It was quite busy when we arrived, with lots of customers coming in and out, for to-go orders. There was a nice selection of beverages, bottled and a fountain area with Coke products. Next time we go, I'm going to try their horchata or mango drink. Everything was as clean as it could be during such a busy time. The restaurant was well staffed and packed with locals! Will definitely stop here on my next trip to the mountains!

Fantastic food. I recommend the chicken flautas and al pastor burrito. Their al pastor meat is flavored well with pineapple and the meat sits side-by-side with grilled pineapple chunks in any entree you order. Really great-tasting stuff! The chicken flautas were perfectly crispy and filled with high-quality white meat chicken. They paired with a green avocado salsa perfectly. They offer a substantial toppings bar that has everything you need for everything you order. The store has a Mexican candy section that my kids look forward to visiting when we’re here from Chicago. And I have to say, we have a lot of Mexican restaurants to choose from in Chicago but we still rate this one in Silverthorne as one of the best. We tried cinnamon sugar cookies and Neopolitan flan while we were here this time and they were both so good that we’re going back just to get more of those! The food may take a while to prepare and a family’s meal comes out as it’s ready, not for the whole family together, so be prepared that you serve yourself inside, clean up your table, and grab your food as it’s called out at the counter.

Ok, this place should be set up as a historic landmark for being the only place in Colorado that KNOWS traditional Hispanic cooking. It feels like you just walked into a market in mexico, its amazing. If you like texas style or fancy plates go elsewhere. This is for the real foodies. The people that understand the culture and love traditional food will love this place. Your street taco is legit and there's more meat that tortilla space. NTM the condiment station The menudo.....i literally drive from Denver for this once a month. Its worth the drive and perfect pit stop after fishing.

Now there are somethings to be prepared for.

  1. They are not quick, your food will take more time than expected but it will be piping hot with fresh tortillas corn or flour. Worth it. 2)Serving Size, are huge and its not uncommon to see food left on plates. Order a couple tacos before ordering 4 and if your not full after 2 get more. 3)Language Barrier, be patient with them and if you don't know Spanish stop speaking in sentences. Taco, corn or wheat, protein. That's all they need. Dont get fussy with the language barrier or if something is slightly different it happens. They are slammed as well. If you cant be respectful...
