I've been to the other Papas and Beer and loved it. This one absolutely shocked me with how rude they were and their horrible customer service. I came on a Saturday at 2pm when it was not busy. The lady didnt even say hi to us or guide us to where we were supposed to sit when we came. She pointed in a general direction where to go so we just guessed where to go. We waited about 10 minutes for a menu. Then another 15 minutes to order. I figured that the complementary chips were done away with until we got it by a different server maybe a half hour after we got there. Initially, I figured maybe she was busy with other guests or maybe the cooks were slow, which if it was actually busy it wouldve been fine and that wasnt as much of an issue. As it progressed, they did not come to our table besides giving us our food. We had to ask them as they passed by for drink refills which they didnt give my sister a refill at all despite asking. I watched as guests who came after us were served far faster and ended up receiving their check and leaving way faster than us. We waited after we ate for probably 10-15 minutes longer waiting for a check so we could finally leave. Seeing that they weren't going to come, I actually had to get up and go to them to ask for a check and to go box while she was giggling with another coworker. When we finally got our checks it was completely mixed up. We were given a to-go cup which had a hole on the bottom and gushed out all over the table. They didnt give us a pen or ask for card when they gave us the check like they do for all their customers, so again we had to go up to them to pay. I just paid for everyone due to it being all mixed up. They didnt even give us eye contact as we paid for it and started giggling with each other talking in Spanish completely ignoring us as we paid. No goodbye or acknowledgement that we existed. It was obvious how they did not treat us like the other guests. I was literally shocked at how rude they were and I've never been treated so rudely in a restaurant before. Again I've been to the other Papas and Beer restaurant and it's a night and day difference with who's working there and how they treat you. I was embarrassed to bring my sisters from out of town here and I wish that I did not tip them. It was a horrible experience and I will never be back to...
Read moreWe've been to both Simpsonville locations within the past year, including the new location last week. We were disappointed that some of the problems from the previous location have carried over to the new; the parking lot and restaurant are still crowded, so you're always in the way of a waiter, customer, etc. My tacos arrived with soggy shells and mostly lettuce & tomatoes (not a tomato fan, or else I would have specified "no tomatoes" had I known). They have a salsa bar with a wide selection, but none are marked, so you literally have to try each one to find out what it is or how spicy it is. Unfortunately, I did not care for any of them. We ordered a corn dog for my daughter but received a chicken strip (fortunately, she likes both!) The first experience we had at the new restaurant was being (gently) admonished for entering the door near the parking lot instead of the hidden door on the front deck (behind the dining tables). After our waiter left only the check on the table and simply said "Have a nice day", I went to pay the check at the front counter, only to find out we have to pay at the table. To reduce the confusion, a "I'll take this when you're ready" would have been helpful, as well as a simple small check tray or folio you'd typically receive at a restaurant. To add insult to injury, the prices there are noticeably higher than our other favorite spots. The food, space, and service issues will keep up from returning, although we have friends who really like...
Read moreMy husband and I ordered the chicken and rice soup for pickup. On their online menu it was stated that soup was $9.99. When my husband arrived they messed up the order and made something aside from the soup. He waited 20 minutes for the correct order. That part is okay... accidents happen. We also ordered a large $8.99 jalapeño queso dip. I asked for extra chips as well. I was given 2 very small bags of chips for a large size queso. When arriving home my husband said the price for what we had ordered seemed outrageous. I looked at the receipt and noticed they had charged us $11.99 for each soup. When I called the store they told me despite paying with a card I would have to drive all the way back to receive the $4 difference. That’s all they were willing to do to make it right.. pay me back what I shouldn't have had to pay in the first place, and then drive all the way back to the restaurant to give me $4. I think customer service is important in the food industry. I worked in the food industry all my teenage years. I personally would have done more to ensure the customer was happy so they would come back... I get accidents happen. There was just no effort to make it right on their end. I feel very...
