The value for money is off at this establishment and it fails to sufficiently differentiate itself from local competition enough to warrant returning. My wife and I went and we tried an assortment of things on the menu to allow us to draw this conclusion. I had a classic breakfast sandwich, an empanada, and a fruit tart. My wife had a pork shoulder sandwich, and we shared a strawberry lemonade. This cost us $50 before tip, which they ask for at the register despite being not being a sit down restaurant. This brings us to a primary complaint. The pricing is all over the place. The pork shoulder sandwich is $18. For context, down the road from this place is Farley Mac's which serves a larger pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich with fries for $16. The pork shoulder sandwich at Pam's tastes good, but comes with no side, and on a smaller ciabatta roll. A tamale is $7! That should be more like $4. The breakfast sandwich I had was priced appropriately, at $10 for sausage egg and cheese on a bagel. For context, down the road is Harvest cafe which sells a similar item for $9.25. However Pam's sandwich lacked anything to make it stand out. I was expecting a Peruvian flair to the dish since this place describes itself as a Peruvian fusion brunch place, and I got none in terms of seasoning or ingredients. My pastries were served to me cold. When I go to a brunch spot, I expect my pastries to taste fresh. A cold empanada is not acceptable to me in a restaurant setting, I expect it to be cooked fresh, not reheated and still cold in the middle, and definitely not served cold for $6. I cannot see us returning unless significant changes are made to both pricing and to how pastries are made and...
Read moreA new Peruvian cafe in Simsbury! It's located in a small plaza with plenty of parking. There was a patio area and a handful of tables inside. I love the cute and pink theme. I am a fan of cafes and bakeries so I had to check this place out.
On this visit, I tried out their iced lucuma latte, lucuma mousse cake, beef empanada, and it was so good. I could eat 20 of those empanadas! It's lightly sweet and savory. Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit which tastes like sweet potato and caramel. First time trying and I am in love. My son enjoyed their flourless brownie, my husband loved the chicken empanadas and black coffee.
Side note: I did order another pastry and was charged for it but they forgot to put it in my bag, I understand, they are working on their kinks as a new business. I'll look at it as their tip lol. The employee was friendly. Overall, I'm glad to have this cafe near me and I'll be back for more drinks...
Read moreI went for the first time as this has been recommended to me and shown up on my social media so I figured why not give it a shot. I got The Golden Lead Latte which had the Lucuma syrup. Absolutely delicious coffee 10/10. However, the coffee was amazing the food was alright. I got the chicken empanada, the filling delicious very similar to how they do it Chile but it was cold! Not even heated up. I got the Avobagel, added cheese and eggs. I truly believe it would have tasted amazing had it not been the bagel was hard as hell. I struggled to bite into it. Had to use a steak knife to be able to cut into it. I truly believe this business is wonderful, super cute, great customer service but my food experience was a disappointment. I hope they make the small correction and continue to succeed. Not sure though if I’d go back for the...
