We like our FD very much. Rarely have we had staff who appeared to not want to be at work - most have been smiling, friendly, talkative (this is good for us because my husband and I enjoy talking to wait staff and feel that's part of the experience of eating out), and fast moving.
Our only choice on the menu, the Feast for Two's cost has gone up significantly, but it's still a reasonable price. It includes ribs, chicken, and pork OR brisket. We get ribs and chopped pork; since we're not fond of the chicken, we get the brisket. The brisket's good but can vary from a bit tough to just-right tender. We like the corn niblets, but, there are soooo many carbs, we swap them for steamed broccoli. We adore the thick fries and are elated FD was able to find a supplier again. We're very disappointed we get smaller corn muffins now. As Southerners, we see cornbread that contains sugar as cake, and the muffins are our dessert. The coleslaw is good, and I dig the baked beans so much that I eat them cold out of the fridge later. We have healthy appetites, and we always take home leftovers.
I chose FD for my birthday because I have a friend who's never been to a FD, and I wanted good ribs; my husband and I had recently tried ribs from Costco, and it seemed we still had a bad taste in our mouth, no pun intended.
For my birthday, I received the brownie dessert. It was very good and the presentation was pretty. Hubby declared it good and rich. Our friend's on a special diet, so I told her about the broccoli as a side for her pulled pork sandwich and coaxed her into taking one bite of my brownie, of which she said, "Oh, that's good." She enjoyed the experience and the food so much, she declared, "I want to come back here! This was nice. I had a great time!"
Part of that great time was due to our waitress, Madison, and she was a doll! I told her I had a coupon for signing up for texts and I wanted no "fanfare" for my birthday. My husband and I hate the birthday and "feast walk" screaming. Madison took our order correctly and remembered the coupon and my birthday wish of no announcement. She kept our glasses full and was so sweet.
There are two things I want to mention. One we brought up with staff when we moved here 10/2017, and that is the feast walk. It hurts my and my husband's ears, and we noted we dislike it. Staff said they have to do it and it's done at ALL the FD. We disputed this, said this is the only FD we've experienced it, and remarked we've eaten at several FDs and in different states. We have asked for our feast not to be announced, but the serving staff continues to do it. This is why I gave three stars for atmosphere. The second is, the water temperature in the womens' bathroom is probably the same temperature as the kitchen. I have forgotten this on many occasions and quickly remember after turning on the hot aka "scald" tap. I keep forgetting to ask management to post a warning the hot water is extremely hot.
Overall, we treasure our FD. Other FDs where we lived were hit or miss for good food, but we are grateful this one tends to be...
Read moresince I was a child in west river, sd, my family took me to famous daves in sioux falls & it was always a tradition to go for a drive and eat there [before rapid city had its own, prior to it closing]. it was my favorite place. however my brothers and I recently ate there twice in two days. we literally went on a 5 hour drive to eat there. and the first day, we had a terrible experience. the food was good, however it was probably the single worst service we've ever experienced. our waiter was named Lara I believe. we empathize with food service workers, especially waiters due to how they're paid and treated by customers. she was dismissive with us, had no manners whatsoever and behaved as if she hated us when we were nothing but kind to her. we were not checked on once. our orders were wrong. my brothers said she should not receive a tip, but I am not that cold. we tipped her despite terrible service. I assumed she may have just had a bad day. so we spent the night and came back the next day, because we love BBQ and famous daves. we thought we'd probably get a different waiter and it would be a different experience, however we were wrong. same waiter and same exact experience as the day before. botched orders. treated like animals. we sat between two different families and witnessed her treating these two parties like a great waitress, laughing and socializing with them then cringing at us. famous daves is ruined in the eyes of my family and i. I never plan to spend another dime there again, in any location, despite it being one of my all time favorite restaurants. the other employees were very kind and helpful, except for what appeared to be the manager [who also had a terrible attitude]. I understand why we were three of only 10 people in such a big restaurant. everybody else must have got the memo that there is no standard and the service is cruel. I'd hope management sees this and trains a few of their employees, or cans them. I wouldn't treat my worst enemy the way they treated my family and I. If I could leave a -100...
Read moreWent there on 2/21 for my birthday, and after going to this resturant for over 20 years I don't think we will be back. When ordering drinks we asked for a 2 kids menus and our waitress response was "um, no" it's for kids 10 and under. So this is obviously a management rule. 2 problems with that:
If my 11 yr old daughter wants chicken tenders she now has to order of the pick me menu which starts at 18, when she only wants 2 chicken tenders that is excessive.
My 15yr old son is autistic and has had food issues all his life, he eats exactly 3 things ate resturants: grilled cheese, kraft mac and cheese, pancakes. As a result he has ate off the kids menu his entire life because they usually have one of those options.
Why are we gatekeeping a kids menu? It's cheaper because it comes with less food.
After trying to find something on the menu as a substitute without luck I told the server we are going to leave, would she like us to pay for the drinks or no? Her response was I have to have you pay for the drinks. Which you don't you could have the manager remove them but whatever I guess. She brings the back and I use a $5 coupon which is met with an eye roll from the waitress. She then goes to run my card, talks to her manager 2 times, returns my card and we get a have a good night. The manager never stops by even though he is aware of the situation.
2 suggestions: revisit your kids menu policy, don't gatekeep something just to force people to spend more.money. and have managers who address situations when aware of them instead of hiding and avoiding...
