Are you a fan of disappointment? Wanna get that heart racing and your blood pressure dangerously high? Then this place is for you! Fear not though, for it really doesn't matter if you go in, use the drive thru or the app, you will get some food. Eventually.
First up, the drive thru: It is usually quite slow even if you're the only person in line! When you finally pull up to the menu/speaker it will probably be a while before someone acknowledges your existence. Sometimes you're told it'll be a while before they can take your order. Sometimes you're told that they're out of what you're trying to order, but that usually only happens after you've been waiting behind 2-3 cars for 10-15 min. Fun!
Don't want to deal with the drive thru? Go on inside and ask the 3-5 people standing around if they're in line first! Nope, they're standing around, spread out, just waiting for their orders to arrive, so head on up to the counter and just stand there awkwardly for a few minutes until someone comes to take your order.
Once your order is finally in and you start your 15-20 min wait for some food to appear, please enjoy a few of the following features: -employees loudly arguing -customers loudly arguing -employees and customers loudly arguing -one random employee cleaning tables and pulling out chairs slowly, so they scrape against the floor in the loudest possible way, for every. Single. Chair. -customers talking to themselves in an uncomfortable muttering fashion or an uncomfortable loud fashion
Ways to entertain yourself while you wait: -try the bathroom, it's usually locked, and no one comes out while you're waiting but hey, you never know, give it a try! -gather your supplies for when the food arrives! Need a straw, some napkins or a lid for your soda? Go stand awkwardly, again, at the front until someone acknowledges you and let them know they're out of straws, napkins and lids. -Make knowing glances to other customers waiting. After all, you're all in this together and will cherish these memories for years to come.
Want to avoid all of that nonsense? Order ahead on the app! -You can choose “pick-up in drive thru,” wait in line as previously discussed and then be told to come inside anyway.* -You can choose “pick-up inside,” just to stand around anyway as previously discussed.*
*both options will end with you inside and finding out that they haven't started your order yet. “But,” you say, “I ordered ahead 15 min ago on the app!” – You sure did! The order either hasn't shown up in their “system” yet or they want to “make sure you're going to show up and can pay for your order,” even though you already paid on the app! You can show them your app and/or email verification, go ahead! It's neat to try and stay optimistic about things. I commend you.
While you wait for the food you ordered 15-20 min ago, please enjoy those in the drive thru and folks coming inside after you, getting their food first somehow! Don't get me wrong, the app definitely works, it just won't save you any time. It's a great way to order food without having to talk to anyone so you can head to your nearest Popeye's and end up having brief, mildly depressing conversations with everyone in the building.
When it comes to the food it is actually pretty tasty! That being said, be prepared to not get biscuits at least 50% of the time. Maybe you'll luck out and get some of your biscuits, this usually means your order is completely wrong - which happens at least 60% of the time. Order regular chicken? You're getting spicy. Order a 2-piece meal and a drink? Enjoy a 3-piece tenders meal, the wrong side and a brief argument with an employee about whether you get a drink or not!
Basically, the food is good and everything else is pretty much a terrible crap shoot. My wife and I continue to order here because we like to treat it as a humorous roll of the dice. Most of the time you will lose, you'll probably be disappointed, you might get something resembling your order and you'll have to set aside at least 30 minutes for the entire...

1245 Arrived at drive up with 4 cars ahead, line moved slow-very slow.
1pm Got to speaker, waited to give order. Gave it
105 at window-man tells me (after I ordered) chicken will take 10minutes drive to front and park to have them bring out.
117 see long lines inside and several cars come and go from drive through during my long wait. I go in where I stand for 5 minutes as this poor girl looks stressed trying to take orders and fill them. People coming in-I tell them to think twice and leave unless they can wait. She gets to me and I tell her- I am checking the status of my order. I have been waiting for over 15minutes for a chicken sandwich and 2 legs!! She yells for KEVIN. Man asked me if I am Food grub or picking up- I say No, I was drive through sitting outside waiting in parking lot. This older guy asks me my order and packs it.
126 got my food and left. It was made sloppy but who cares, that happens from time to time.
Listen my point is- There were 3 people there, if they had a chicken wait they should be telling people before they order to give the me the chance to move from the line or stay. I understanding staffing issues, not the point. Communication is the key. Hell put a sign on the drive through saying fryer down, speaker down or whatever if they don’t feel comfortable saying they are struggling and cant keep up. I didn’t see the drive through guy helping much, the guy in the back was older, and seem to be trying to get stuff done, and the girl seemed newer or anxious, I don’t know. This is the worst experience at popeyes here in Sioux falls but they struggle more often with order or correct orders than they should at both locations. You need some training and some staff. I would like refund. Email sent...
