NEW Restaurant Alert

What a nice surprise. It's definitely a hidden gem. My husband and I stumbled upon this place on our first date day in forever. We took in a movie and then headed to Olde Town to see if there was anything we wanted. While driving through, we saw the sign for this place. I immediately googled it, looked at the pictures, the menu, and said, "Let's try it." So glad we did.

SUNDAY BRUNCH!!!

Greeting and Ambiance These are the only reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. We weren't greeted upon entering and had to ask if we just seat ourselves to the bar tender, and she said yes. We chose a high top table. There were 3 wooden high tops and about 5 or 6 seated tables and a bar with seating. I could not quite put my finger on the aesthetic they were going for, but it was clean and not a deal breaker for us.

Drinks They have a full bar and have a cool selection of Mules (Tennesee, Mexican, Irish..etc). They were delicious and come in these mule cups that are a pretty good size.

Food Here is where the drooling begins 😋! For an appetizer, we got their Bananas Foster Beignets...the syrup was so good I wanted to lick the plate. The Beignets were a great density and cooked to perfection. I ordered the Redfish and Grits... I did try and get it blackened, but it came out fried. I'm secretly glad it came out wrong. It also came with shrimp, which I didn't realize, so it was a pleasant surprise. The crispy crust was flavorful and added great contrast to the gouda corn grits. Everything was so balanced and delicious!!! My husband got the shrimp and grits... he inhaled it. Lastly, we added the loaded home fries. Potatoes were cooked perfectly, as was the bacon. Crispy with the cheddar cheese melted on top and a chive garnish. We definitely couldn't eat all of the food we ordered, but it was all amazing!

Service Excellent. We were helped by several people once seated, the bar tender was super nice, and spent some time talking with us as we were finishing up.

At the end of the meal, one of the partners checked on our table, and we learned that they had just opened a few weeks earlier, and then he took me on a tour of the place. They have a very cute back patio. Large fans and a dedicated bar. They also have a private event space. Insane how big this place actually was.

Highly...

So, I made reservations at Bistro 55 for a party of 15 on Friday night, this past Monday. I was told when making the reservation that it would not be a problem. They could set us up in their main dining room or we could sit on the patio. I told them that we would more than likely sit on the patio, weather permitting. On Wednesday I called to ask if we could add 5 more guests. They said, "Absolutely!"

I get a phone call today, the day before the reservation. Mimi explains to me that they booked the patio so it's not available and that they are having a live band playing in the main dining room but she could sit us in the wine room if I wanted to come by and take a look at it. It was tiny! My mom asked her if there would be tragic coming through the room and she said, "No, we will direct them through the gate outside." We told her, "Okay, we'll deal with the small space as long as there wouldn't be traffic coming through the already cramped space." The only reason I agreed to this is because she waited until the day before our reservation to call and let me know that they gave the patio away to another customer and that they were having a live band play in the main dining room. A little late to make other plans.

She then, calls me back to tell me that they would have "some traffic" going through that tiny room.

Unbelievable!!!

Did I mention that this is our wedding day dinner plans? I did mention it to her when I first made the reservation!

They completely screwed me over!!! We will never do business with...

When this restaurant was new, the weekday lunch food and service was great. The last two visits were on a Saturday evening and food was subpar (cold) and service was terrible. The first Saturday it took forever for alcohol to come out. I had to leave my courtyard table and walk to the bar to get refills because our waitress was MIA. As far as the service, the waitress wrote down my wife’s entrée order but she did not receive it. I had to go back to the bar to complain about this and she’s still did not receive it until we were leaving. We were there again last night, and the place was empty so the kitchen was not busy. Once again, the service was poor. Spinach dip taste great, but it was on the cold side and we did not receive all the items for the seafood platter. When asked about this the waitress lied and said, hush puppies were not on the menu. She also lied and said all of the red wine was chilled, and she could not serve a glass of room temperature red wine. That is hard to believe when I walk past a wine cellar full of red wine. I really wish this place would higher better staff because I do enjoy the atmosphere, and overall when the food is hot, it...

My wife, Frances, and I and two friends ate brunch at Bistro 55 today. Bistro 55, a cajun/creole restaurant, opened in May 2023 and is located on the corner of Robert and 1st Streets in Olde Town, Slidell, LA, formerly the Wine Garden building. The owners are Mike and Charleen York and partner Lawrence Bernard. I asked Mrs. York what the 55-degree symbol meant behind the Bistro name. She said 55-degrees is the temperature at which red wine is kept. Very interesting. The restaurant has more than the main dining room in the front. As you can see by the photos, there is a small hallway on the side of the bar that leads out to an intermediate indoor/outdoor seating area. If you keep going you enter an open air dining area known as the Event Room. This area will have karaoke entertainment starting Wednesday, October 25. The food is delicious and our waitress, Dominique, answered our questions about the selections before we ordered. She was very attentive, friendly and efficient. For a very enjoyable eating experience go to Bistro 55 restaurant at 300 Robert Street, Slidell, LA 70458. There was plenty of on-street parking at the time we went. R. S. Matthews

I attended a benefit here last night , I sat outdoors for an event, it was a bit warm in August, but they did not offer us indoor seating as they had originally promised, wouldn’t take reservations either . I was excited to try this newer locally owned restaurant out , but due to the outdoor temps , I asked about the charcuterie board ($27) something light / cool … rather than a hot meal. I asked before ordering what was on the board. I was told ( goat cheeses / pepperoni / salami / prosciutto/ & fruit ) , so I ordered and split with a friend . What I got was not that ( inedible tough ham slices / and spicy capocollo, Monterey Jack , Colby Jack & dill cheese / & some grapes ) I will state that the event was most likely overwhelming for the courteous staff who I tipped very well by the way . I am Just disappointed that I asked ahead of time before ordering and did not get what I was told, first world problems . For the owners , just be honest with your customers and tell them that due to the overwhelming demand of the guests that showed up at the event , we don’t have the supply.
