Fair warning: I tend to be too demanding when it comes to Italian. I was a fine dinning waiter. I worked at Andrea's, to name drop one. I'd say this place is good, not great.Though, when coupled with the current price, and the options on the menu not usually seen at these prices, I'm impressed. Bread comes out first. It appears home made, likely the same recipe as their pizza dough, but with a brush of mystery(garlic?) butter It's good, and it comes out free and first. We got the appetizer sampler. Priced well, and with several items. The foccacia is actually french bread with cheese and tomato. That's my biggest criticism of the restaurant. You can't go around renaming things. Foccacia is a flat bread. French bread isn't even an Italian style... Calamari could have been slightly more tender, and more flavorful. This is a serving of rings only, floured and served with red gravy. Also came with mozzarella sticks of uncommon batter, which I liked better than the normal sticks. The gravy, by the way, was good as well. Not sweet, not overly acidic. Also had two seafood stuffed mushrooms on it. These were tasty, but don't expect to discern types of seafood, these are not large enough. My dinner was the linguini with clams. It was the lowest price I've ever seen on this dish, but sized appropriately. Which isn't to say it was too small. It had a good number of clams in shell and a nice sauce which isn't "linguini con vongole" because they use Sherry in their sauce, and it was tasty. It was, however missing the large number of loose clams that are usually in "con vongole". But then, it had more shelled clams than usual. Final note on size: I did have part of that appetizer, and wasn't stuffed when finished the entree. I was happy they refilled the bread at this point. I wasn't leaving that sauce for the landfill. Everyone at the table was happy with their meals. Several people got one manner of combination or another from the menu. I thought the fact they were there at all was nice. I like the option of having chicken parm, and eggplant, and noodles and sauce in one dish. I found the cream sauce in that dish a little lacking in flavor, but certainly not too thin or prepared improperly. Noodles are not overcooked, but also not as Al dente as I like them. I know my review comes off sounding a harsh criticism, but actually it's incredibly good at the price. Much better than some other local Italian places with menus much more expensive. Give it a shot. It's a great addition to Slidell, and MUCH cleaner than the poboy shop...
Read moreWanted to try Fratelli's Italian Grille to see if it was as good as my favorite Italian Ristorante. Absolutely Better in some ways, and could become a new favorite. Don't let being in a tucked away strip mall like business fool you. The special was pretty much what I wanted and though the menu makes it difficult to choose, the Chicken and Shrimp Vineto kept calling my name. The salad arrived moments after ordering and the house dressing, Tomato, Basil Vinaigrette, while I like tomato and basil they're not my favorite, and I never pick vinaigrette over creamy dressings. However, it was incredible. The warm rolls were light with a crispy textured buttery top, so delicious, and paired with the Tomato Basil dressing, had me excited for the arrival of my entree. As the star of the show arrived(description in picture) it introduced itself with the most promising aroma. The angel hair was perfect. The artichoke hearts and mushrooms swimming in the buttery white wine almost steels, no, almost makes you not care about the fillets of chicken, until you taste that too. All together, in a word, IMPECCABLE. I couldn't get enough, and again, the rolls sopping up that creamy goodness becomes almost an obsession. It had me wondering if I was going to have to order another plate. Thank goodness it filled me up to where dessert was going to have to be split between my wife and I. Now, we wanted the Tiramisu, but we already head the table next to us order it and found out that it sold out. When they heard our sighs of disappointment they told us that it was so amazing they could imagine that must happen frequently. So, we ordered the Lemon Cello. It was like everything worked in our favor, because that was so, so, so, so, so good. I can't...
Read moreThis restaurant is so cute! It was not super busy when we went on a Friday evening, but quickly picked up after about a half hour there. It's easy to drive by it without seeing. I've driven by many times and never noticed it. It's not super fine dining type of restaurant, but it does have table clothes and nice seating. The staff was attentive and the restaurant appears very clean.
Our waiter was kind and attentive and he brought out fresh bread. Their bread has a beautiful texture and crust, so I assume their pizza shares this delicious crusty recipe.
I ordered a chicken parmesan because I was craving something simple, although I initially came for pizza. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and had two hand sized portions of thin cut chicken filet. I chose angel hair with my chicken parmesan and the amount of sauce was perfect for me. Portion is large, and the cost is very reasonable. Other options include ziti and spaghetti. I ate half of my plate.
They have a varied price of wine available for purchase, and a good variety of homemade Italian food. Pepsi non-alcoholic products.
Their menu includes dishes I don't see in other Italian eateries in the area and has a vast pasta choice including baked dishes such as stuffed manicotti and lasagna. Seafood pastas and veal. I didn't take too many photos because I was excited to eat some food I don't...
